Linn Majik 4100 Four-Channel Power Amplifier

The Majik 4100 is Linn's four-channel Exakt power amplifier — 100 W per channel into 8 Ω across four independent output stages, in a single compact chassis that defines the most straightforward route into two-way Exakt active stereo at Majik performance level. Four channels in one box is not a compromise of convenience — it is the precise channel count required for a stereo pair of two-way active loudspeakers, delivered without redundancy, without complexity, and without the footprint and cost of four separate amplifier units. For the listener building their first serious Linn Exakt active system around two-way speakers, the Majik 4100 is the amplifier the architecture was designed around.

The Majik 4100 occupies the same compact chassis as the rest of the Majik amplifier range — a chassis whose dimensions are a deliberate expression of Linn's belief that great amplification should not require a dedicated equipment rack. It sits naturally alongside a Linn DSM and a pair of loudspeakers. Its single Linn Link connection carries the processed digital signal from the DSM to all four output stages simultaneously. There is no analogue input, no preamplifier stage, and nothing in the 4100's signal path beyond conversion and amplification. Its function is precisely defined and precisely executed.

The Case for Active Amplification

In a passive loudspeaker system, the crossover sits inside the cabinet — a network of capacitors, resistors, and inductors that divides the amplified signal between drive units after the amplifier has already done its work. That crossover introduces phase shift, timing anomalies, and insertion losses that are inherent to passive component behaviour and cannot be eliminated by better component quality alone. The passive crossover is the single most compromising element in a conventional loudspeaker system, and it is entirely absent from any Linn Exakt active configuration.

In a system driven by the Majik 4100, the crossover is digital, applied upstream in the Linn DSM at line level, with a precision that passive components cannot approach. Each channel of the 4100 receives only the frequency band its assigned drive unit is built to reproduce — bass to the woofer channels, treble to the tweeter channels — with crossover parameters calculated specifically for the loudspeaker in question. The result is the tighter bass control, more coherent driver integration, and substantially improved low-level resolution that consistently distinguish active systems from their passive equivalents, at any price point.

Each of the 4100's four output stages is independently driven, with its own buffer stage, so the load presented by one driver cannot directly affect the performance of any other. The shared power supply is sized to meet the combined demands of four channels under sustained programme conditions — not merely the average conditions that laboratory measurements are typically taken under.

System Integration and Expansion

The Majik 4100 receives its signal digitally from any Linn DSM equipped with a Linn Link output — a Linn Majik DSM 5G, a Linn Selekt DSM Edition Hub, or a Linn Klimax DSM. All signal processing is handled upstream. The 4100 amplifies what it is given, faithfully and without addition.

For systems requiring more than four channels — a three-way active stereo pair, or a two-way stereo pair with a dedicated subwoofer channel — Linn's Linn Link architecture supports multiple amplifiers driven cleanly from a single DSM. The 4100 pairs naturally with a Linn Majik 2100 stereo amplifier to reach six channels for a three-way active stereo configuration. For extended bass management, the Linn Exaktbox Sub integrates seamlessly with the 4100 in a multi-channel active system. The Linn 360 Active Loudspeaker incorporates its own amplification and requires no external power amplifier — the Majik 4100 is the natural choice for active systems built around other Linn-compatible loudspeakers.

Who Is It For?

The Majik 4100 is the entry point into four-channel Linn Exakt active amplification — the natural and correct amplifier for a stereo pair of two-way active loudspeakers at Majik performance level, and an equally capable foundation for more complex multi-channel builds supplemented by additional Majik units. It is compact, purposeful, and entirely without redundancy. For those ready to step beyond the Majik tier, the Linn Akurate 4200 delivers a meaningful and audible improvement in dynamic authority and low-level resolution across the same four-channel configuration.

Buying from Martins Hi-Fi

Martins Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968. Elizabeth Gould runs the business today, and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind.

If you are configuring a Linn Exakt active system for the first time, we can help you work out the right amplifier channel count for your loudspeakers, your room, and your DSM from the outset — and demonstrate what the Majik 4100 actually delivers in a properly set-up active system at our Norwich showroom.

When you get in touch, you'll be speaking with Dave, Chris and Tim — experienced specialists who can advise on this product and your whole system.
