Vinyl has never really gone away — it just went quiet for a while. The turntables we stock at Martins Hi-Fi represent the work of engineers who have spent careers on a single, deceptively simple question: how do you read a groove without adding anything to what is in it?

Rega

Rega's approach is rooted in rigidity and low mass. The Planar 1 is the starting point — a deck that plays records the way they were meant to be heard, without complication. The Planar 2 and Planar 3 build on that foundation with progressively more refined bearings, platters and tonearms, each step a genuine engineering advance rather than a cosmetic one. The Planar 8 and Planar 10 take the same philosophy to a level where you begin to hear things in familiar recordings that were always there but never audible. The Naia sits at the summit — the full expression of what Rega's decades of tonearm and platter research have produced.

Linn

Linn's LP12 occupies a different position entirely. Continuously developed since 1972, it is less a product than a platform — one that rewards long-term investment. The Majik LP12 is the entry point at a serious level; the Selekt and Klimax configurations allow you to follow your ears as far as they take you. The LP12-50 anniversary edition is for those who understand what fifty years of focused refinement produces.

SME

SME make tonearms and turntables to tolerances that most engineering disciplines would consider excessive. That is precisely the point. The Model 20, Model 30 and Model 60 are built on a philosophy that resolves bearing geometry, platter mass, arm alignment and isolation with a rigour that produces results you hear immediately.

AVID HiFi

AVID HiFi take a different path — precision suspension engineering and power supply design that isolate the stylus from every form of mechanical and electrical interference. The Acutus remains one of the most technically serious turntables a British manufacturer has produced.
