Linn Akurate 4200 Four-Channel Power Amplifier

The Akurate 4200 is Linn's four-channel power amplifier at Akurate tier — a single chassis delivering 200 W per channel into 8 Ω across four independent output stages, built for those who want the engineering quality and dynamic authority of the Akurate range without the physical and financial footprint of four separate mono blocks. In a Linn Exakt active system, where each amplifier channel drives a single drive unit with no passive crossover between output stage and driver, the quality of the amplification is more directly and completely audible than in any passive arrangement. The Akurate 4200 makes that quality available across four channels in one chassis — and in doing so, it defines the natural amplification choice for a two-way Exakt active stereo system at Akurate performance level.

Akurate-Grade Amplification Across Four Channels

The Akurate tier represents a meaningful and audible step above the Majik range in every respect that matters to system performance. The power supply in the 4200 is not a shared compromise — it is a properly specified, high-current design built to sustain the dynamic demands of four output stages simultaneously without the compression and constraint that an underpowered supply inevitably introduces under load. The output stage components are selected for linearity and consistency across the operating range, and the chassis design prioritises thermal management and mechanical stability in equal measure.

The 4200 receives its signal digitally from a Linn DSM via the Linn Link connection. All signal processing — crossover filtering, time alignment, and speaker-specific Space Optimisation — is handled upstream in the DSM. The 4200's contribution to the signal chain is amplification alone: converting a processed digital signal into the controlled mechanical movement of a drive unit with the minimum possible degradation between input and output.

At 200 W per channel, the 4200 has the headroom to drive demanding loudspeakers with authority under all programme conditions. The difference between the 4200 and the Majik 4100 is not simply doubled power output — though that alone is significant. It is the combination of power supply quality, output stage design, and component grade that separates the two tiers. The Akurate resolves more low-level detail in complex recordings, maintains better control under sustained dynamic load, and presents a more precise and stable stereo image. These differences are consistently audible and consistently significant.

Four Channels for Active Stereo

The 4200 is the natural amplification choice for a stereo pair of two-way Exakt active loudspeakers at Akurate performance level — four drive units, four channels, one amplifier. It provides exactly the channel count required for that configuration, without complexity or redundancy.

For three-way active stereo systems, where six channels are required, the 4200 pairs naturally with a Linn Akurate 2200 stereo power amplifier to provide the additional two channels, or with a pair of Linn Akurate 3200 mono blocks for those who want a fully symmetrical configuration. Linn's Linn Link architecture supports multiple amplifiers driven from a single Selekt DSM Edition Hub or Klimax DSM, making multi-amplifier configurations straightforward to configure and control.

For those building systems around the Linn Klimax System Hub at the centre, the 4200 integrates seamlessly as the amplification foundation of an Akurate-tier active system.

Who Is It For?

The Akurate 4200 is for the committed Linn Exakt active system builder who wants Akurate-tier performance across four amplifier channels in a single, well-engineered chassis. It is the defining amplifier for a two-way active stereo system at this level, and the natural core of a larger multi-channel Akurate active configuration when combined with the 2200 or 3200. Those stepping up from the Majik 4100 will hear the improvement clearly — in dynamic range, in low-level resolution, and in the stability and precision of the stereo image under complex programme conditions.

Buying from Martins Hi-Fi

Martins Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968. Elizabeth Gould runs the business today, and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind.

Choosing between the Akurate and Klimax amplifier tiers is a conversation worth having in person — we have heard both at length and can give you an honest account of where the differences lie and whether they justify the step. Come and hear an Akurate Exakt active system at our Norwich showroom.

When you get in touch, you'll be speaking with Dave, Chris and Tim — experienced specialists who can advise on this product and your whole system.
