Meridian 251 Powered Zone Controller

The Meridian 251 is a compact 1U zone controller with two onboard amplifier channels — the step up from the 218 for rooms where a separate power amplifier is not practical. It combines digital and analogue inputs, high-resolution MQA decoding, and Roon Tested compatibility with enough amplification to drive a pair of speakers or a soundbar directly. All in a half-width 1U unit that fits in a rack, on a shelf, or in a plant room.

Amplification and Sources

Two onboard amplifier channels deliver clean, cool-running power from a form factor that makes no concessions on audio quality. The analogue outputs support 2.1 configurations — a pair of speakers plus a subwoofer, driven from a single 251 in one zone.

Source compatibility:

• Roon Tested — compatible as a Roon endpoint for multi-zone playback
• MQA decoding — unfolds MQA masters from Tidal Masters and other MQA sources
• Digital and analogue inputs — accepts a broad range of source types
• Web-based configuration — set up and managed via browser without specialist software

IP and IR control integration allows the 251 to operate within third-party control systems (Crestron, Control4, and others), making it straightforward to include in professionally installed multi-room projects.

Who Is It For?

The 251 is for zones in a distributed Meridian system where passive speakers are fitted and a separate power amplifier is unnecessary. It suits utility rooms, bedrooms, or secondary spaces where the 218 feeds DSP speakers but the zone in question runs passive speakers from a compact unit. For zones needing more amplifier channels, the 258 Power Amplifier provides eight channels in a similarly compact 1U chassis.
