Linn Majik 3100 Mono Power Amplifier
The Majik 3100 is Linn's single-channel Exakt power amplifier at Majik tier — 100 W into 8 Ω from a chassis whose entire power supply and output stage exists for that one channel alone. It is the most precisely targeted amplifier in the Majik range: one input, one output, one drive unit. In a Linn Exakt active system, where the relationship between amplifier and driver is more direct and more consequential than in any passive arrangement, the Majik 3100 provides a level of inter-channel isolation that no multi-channel unit can match — and it does so in the most compact, most flexible form factor in the Linn amplifier catalogue.
The 3100 is a building block — not in the diminishing sense that term sometimes implies, but in the most purposeful one. It exists to allow Exakt active system builders to assign exactly one channel of Majik-quality amplification to exactly one drive unit, in any system configuration that requires it. No shared chassis, no shared power supply, no electrical relationship with any other channel in the system. The 3100 contributes its channel and nothing else, at full Majik engineering quality, with complete freedom from the inter-channel interactions that even well-designed multi-channel amplifiers cannot entirely eliminate.
Mono Amplification — The Engineering Argument
In a multi-channel amplifier, output stages share a common power supply. When a bass driver demands a high-current transient — as all bass drivers do, frequently — the shared supply responds to that demand. The remaining channels, driving tweeters or midrange units, are not immune to this: they draw their current from the same reservoir, and a reservoir under momentary stress is not the same as one at rest. The effect on the treble and midrange channels is subtle but consistent — a slight reduction in dynamic authority, a marginal compression of fine detail, at precisely the moments when the bass channel is working hardest.
A mono amplifier has no shared supply to stress. The Majik 3100's power supply is not divided between a bass channel and a treble channel — it is dedicated entirely and exclusively to the one drive unit the 3100 is assigned to drive. Whatever that driver demands, the 3100 provides, without reference to and without influence from any other channel in the system. In a well-configured Exakt active system, the contribution of this isolation is most clearly audible at the bass end — tighter, more controlled, more defined — but the improvement extends across the full frequency range in the form of a more open and more resolved presentation throughout.
For Exakt active system configurations where the channel count of the available multi-channel units does not quite match the drive unit count of the chosen loudspeakers, the 3100 provides the precise additional channel required without demanding the purchase of a further multi-channel unit with redundant channels. A three-way active stereo pair requires six channels of amplification — a Linn Majik 4100 and a pair of Majik 3100s provides six channels with complete flexibility. The 3100 also suits room layouts where placing amplifiers close to their assigned loudspeakers is preferable to rack-mounting multi-channel units — in active systems, proximity between amplifier and driver reduces speaker cable length, which is a genuinely worthwhile benefit rather than a merely theoretical one.
System Integration
The Majik 3100 receives its signal digitally via Linn Link from any Linn DSM — a Linn Majik DSM 5G, a Linn Selekt DSM Edition Hub, or a Linn Klimax System Hub. There is no analogue input and no signal processing within the 3100 — all crossover filtering, time alignment, and Space Optimisation are applied upstream in the DSM. Multiple 3100s combine freely with any other Majik amplifier, and Linn's Linn Link architecture handles the configuration cleanly from a single DSM via the Linn app. For systems requiring extended subwoofer integration, the Linn Exaktbox Sub works seamlessly alongside the 3100 within the same active configuration.

Who Is It For?
The Majik 3100 is for the Linn Exakt active system builder who needs a single additional channel of Majik-quality amplification — to complete an awkward channel count, to supplement an existing multi-channel unit, or to run a fully mono block configuration for maximum inter-channel isolation at Majik performance level. It is not a standalone product; it is a precision component in a larger active system. For those ready to step up to Akurate-tier mono amplification, the Linn Akurate 3200 delivers a substantial and consistent improvement in dynamic authority and low-level resolution in a mono block configuration of the same fundamental architecture.
Buying from Martins Hi-Fi
Martins Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968. Elizabeth Gould runs the business today, and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind.
Configuring the right combination of Majik amplifiers for a given set of loudspeakers, room layout, and channel count is exactly the kind of planning conversation we are well placed to help with — we have built Exakt active systems across a wide range of configurations and can advise on the most effective and most flexible approach for your specific situation.
When you get in touch, you'll be speaking with Dave, Chris and Tim — experienced specialists who can advise on this product and your whole system.
