Fyne Audio F500S Bookshelf Speakers

The F500S is the standmount entry point into Fyne Audio's S Series — a 2-way design built around a 150mm IsoFlare point-source driver with a 25mm magnesium dome compression tweeter, housed in a high-rigidity MDF cabinet with extensive internal bracing. Frequency response extends from 45Hz to 34kHz, sensitivity is 89dB, and the recommended amplifier power range is 30–100W. Available in Black Oak, Natural Walnut, and Piano Gloss Black, it is a genuine step up from the E Series in driver specification, cabinet finish, and overall construction quality — and the magnesium dome tweeter is the same compression driver format used throughout the S and SP ranges.

At 325 × 204 × 317mm and with a 150mm IsoFlare driver, the F500S occupies the space of a compact standmount but delivers the point-source coherence that defines the Fyne Audio approach. The downfiring BassTrax Tractrix port gives it meaningfully better placement flexibility than a rear-ported standmount of comparable size — 45Hz from a cabinet of these dimensions is the result of that loading approach.

IsoFlare Driver Technology

The IsoFlare driver combines the bass/midrange cone and the high-frequency compression tweeter on a shared axis — the tweeter fires from the centre of the bass/midrange cone — so both drivers radiate sound from the same point in space. This point-source behaviour produces consistent time alignment across the listening area and off-axis coherence that a conventional separated-driver arrangement cannot replicate.

In the F500S, the IsoFlare driver is a 150mm multi-fibre cone unit with FyneFlute roll surround, paired with a 25mm magnesium dome compression tweeter and neodymium HF magnet. The neodymium magnet and vented rear chamber extend high-frequency performance to 34kHz. The magnesium diaphragm is stiffer and lighter than titanium, which reduces resonance in the critical presence band and contributes to the F500S's detailed midrange character.

BassTrax and Port System

The downfiring port connects to a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser built into the base of the cabinet. The Tractrix profile maintains a consistent expansion angle as bass energy leaves the port, reducing reflections and smoothing the transition between port output and room. This gives the F500S meaningfully better placement flexibility than a conventional rear-ported standmount — it is less sensitive to floor-boundary effects and less critical of the distance between the rear of the cabinet and the wall behind it.

Presence Control

A rear-facing presence switch provides ±3dB adjustment between 2.5kHz and 5.0kHz — the frequency range that governs the perceived forwardness or warmth of a speaker's character. This is a practical tool for adapting the F500S to different rooms and partnering equipment without external equalisation. The adjustment is subtle rather than dramatic: ±3dB at 2.5–5kHz shifts the tonal balance in a way that is immediately audible but does not alter the fundamental character of the speaker.

Cabinet Construction

The cabinet is high-rigidity MDF with extensive internal bracing. The three finish options — Black Oak and Natural Walnut real wood veneers, and Piano Gloss Black — are a step up from the vinyl finishes of the E Series. The real wood veneers in particular give the F500S a quality of surface finish that is unusual at this price point.

Who Is It For?

The F500S suits a listener who wants the IsoFlare point-source experience in a compact standmount with real wood veneer finish options — either because their room demands a smaller speaker, or because they are building a system where standmounts are the preferred form. The 89dB sensitivity and 8Ω impedance are easy for most integrated amplifiers; 30 watts is workable in a smaller room. The presence control is genuinely useful for rooms where the speaker ends up closer to the rear wall than is ideal.

For those who want more bass reach and a larger driver in a floorstanding enclosure, the F501S is the natural next step — a 2.5-way floorstander using the same IsoFlare driver format in a taller cabinet. Those building a cinema system around the F500S should consider the F500S LCR as a matched centre channel. The Fyne Audio Vintage Five is the natural comparison for buyers drawn to a heritage aesthetic at a similar price, and the F5S is worth considering for those who want the SP-adjacent specification in a compact standmount format.
