Fyne Audio Vintage Five

The Vintage Five is a compact standmount loudspeaker from Fyne Audio's heritage-influenced Vintage series — a 2-way design built around a 125mm IsoFlare point-source driver with a 19mm magnesium dome compression tweeter, housed in a pressed high-density birch ply cabinet finished in Walnut. Frequency response extends from 46Hz to 38kHz, sensitivity is 87dB, and it is tuned with a single-wired passive crossover with Deep Cryogenic Treatment applied to all components. The Vintage series draws on the aesthetic traditions of classic British loudspeaker design whilst using Fyne Audio's most current driver and port technology — the result is a speaker that looks and feels unlike almost anything else at its price.

At its heart, the Vintage Five is an IsoFlare speaker. The same point-source driver geometry that defines the F1 series and the F700 SP range appears here in a compact, characterful cabinet that suits rooms where a full-size floorstander would be impractical or incongruous. The birch ply cabinet construction — rather than the MDF used in many speakers at this price — contributes meaningfully to the Vintage Five's tonal character.

IsoFlare Driver Technology

The IsoFlare driver combines bass/midrange cone and high-frequency compression tweeter on a shared axis — the tweeter fires from the centre of the bass/midrange cone — so both drivers radiate from the same point in space. This point-source behaviour produces consistent time alignment across the listening area and isotropic dispersion that a conventional separated-driver arrangement cannot replicate.

In the Vintage Five, the IsoFlare driver uses a 125mm multi-fibre cone with a FyneFlute roll surround, paired with a 19mm magnesium dome compression tweeter with a neodymium magnet system. The 38kHz high-frequency extension is a direct consequence of the compression tweeter's coaxial integration with the bass/midrange cone — the point-source geometry allows the tweeter to operate well beyond the limits of a conventionally placed dome driver.

BassTrax and Port System

The downfiring port connects to a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser built into the speaker's base. The Tractrix profile manages the expanding bass wavefront as it exits the port, reducing reflections and smoothing the bass-to-room transition. This gives the Vintage Five meaningfully better placement flexibility than a conventional rear-ported standmount — 46Hz from a cabinet of this size and construction is the result of that loading approach.

Crossover and Presence Control

The crossover divides at 1.9kHz: 2nd order low-pass on the bass/midrange, 1st order high-pass on the tweeter. It is a single-wired passive low-loss design with Deep Cryogenic Treatment applied throughout. A presence control on the rear panel allows ±3dB adjustment between 2.5kHz and 5kHz — a practical tool for fine-tuning tonal balance to the room without external equalisation.

Cabinet Construction

The cabinet is pressed high-density birch ply — a more rigid and better-damped material than MDF, and one with a long history in serious loudspeaker construction. The Walnut finish and the Vintage series aesthetic give it a character that is deliberately distinct from the piano gloss options available elsewhere in the Fyne Audio range.

Who Is It For?

The Vintage Five suits a listener who wants the IsoFlare point-source experience in a compact, heritage-styled cabinet — either because their room demands a smaller speaker, or because the Vintage aesthetic is simply more appropriate for their space than a piano gloss standmount. At 87dB sensitivity, it is a little less efficient than most Fyne Audio speakers and benefits from a quality amplifier with some authority; 30 watts is workable in a smaller room, but 50–80 watts is more comfortable. The presence control is genuinely useful for adapting to different room acoustics without external equalisation.

For those drawn to the Vintage series at a much larger scale, the Fyne Audio Vintage Fifteen is the flagship expression of the same design philosophy. Those who want more bass reach and dynamics from a Fyne Audio standmount should consider the F701SP or the F5S.
