IsoFlare Point-Source Driver Technology

The Vintage Five is built around Fyne Audio's proprietary IsoFlare driver — a 125mm multi-fibre cone with a FyneFlute roll surround, paired with a 19mm magnesium dome compression tweeter mounted on a shared axis at the centre of the bass/midrange cone. This coaxial, point-source arrangement means that both drivers radiate sound from precisely the same point in space — delivering consistent time alignment and isotropic dispersion that a conventional separated-driver topology cannot replicate at any price. The compression tweeter's coaxial integration with the bass/midrange cone allows high-frequency extension to 38kHz — well beyond the limits of a conventionally placed dome driver — and the imaging stability this configuration provides is audible from the first note.

BassTrax and the Downfiring Port System

Low-frequency loading in the Vintage Five is handled by a downfiring port connected to a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser built into the speaker's base. The Tractrix profile manages the expanding bass wavefront as it exits the port, reducing reflections and smoothing the transition between the cabinet's bass output and the room. The practical consequence is meaningful placement flexibility — the Vintage Five does not need to be pulled far from a rear wall to function correctly — and a measured bass extension of 46Hz from a cabinet of this size and construction that is the direct result of this loading approach.

Crossover, Cryogenic Treatment, and Presence Control

The passive crossover divides at 1.9kHz — 2nd order low-pass on the bass/midrange, 1st order high-pass on the tweeter — in a single-wired, low-loss configuration. Deep Cryogenic Treatment is applied to all crossover components: an intensive cryogenic process that lowers the noise floor of the crossover and improves long-term component stability. A presence control on the rear panel allows ±3dB adjustment across the 2.5kHz to 5kHz band — a precise and genuinely practical tool for adapting the Vintage Five's tonal balance to its room without recourse to external equalisation.

Cabinet Construction

The cabinet is pressed high-density birch ply — a material with a longer and more distinguished history in serious loudspeaker construction than the MDF used in many competitors at this price. Birch ply is more rigid, better damped, and contributes a tonal character of its own that distinguishes the Vintage Five from its contemporaries. The Walnut finish and understated Vintage aesthetic give the speaker an identity that is entirely its own within the Fyne Audio range.

The Vintage Five suits a listener who wants the IsoFlare point-source experience in a compact, heritage-styled cabinet — either because their room demands a smaller speaker, or because the Vintage aesthetic is simply more appropriate for their space than a piano gloss standmount. At 87dB sensitivity, the Vintage Five benefits from a quality amplifier with genuine authority; 30 watts is workable in a smaller room, but 50–80 watts is more comfortable and brings the best out of the IsoFlare driver. The presence control is a genuinely useful tuning tool for rooms that require tonal adjustment without external equalisation.
