Fyne Audio F501S Floorstanding Speakers

The Fyne Audio F501S is a 2.5-way floorstanding loudspeaker from the S Series — the natural progression from the F500S standmount for listeners who want the same IsoFlare point-source driver in a full-size enclosure with genuine bass authority. It is built around the same 150mm IsoFlare driver with 25mm magnesium dome compression tweeter as the F500S, adds a dedicated 150mm bass driver below it, and loads the cabinet through a downfiring BassTrax Tractrix port — a configuration that extends bass reach to 36Hz whilst preserving the imaging precision and off-axis coherence that define the IsoFlare concept in the midrange and treble. Available in Black Oak, Natural Walnut, and Piano Gloss Black, the F501S is a speaker that earns its place in a serious listening room on engineering merit rather than surface appeal.

The 2.5-Way Configuration — Why It Matters

The distinction between the F500S standmount and the F501S floorstander is not simply cabinet size. The additional 150mm bass driver in the F501S crosses in at 250Hz, taking responsibility for everything below that point and leaving the IsoFlare unit to operate from 250Hz upward through the midrange and treble. This division of labour has two direct consequences. First, the IsoFlare driver operates over a more focused frequency range — it is not simultaneously managing the lowest bass frequencies — which reduces cone excursion at low frequencies and allows the driver to perform with greater precision in the midrange. Second, the dedicated bass driver, combined with the larger cabinet volume and BassTrax port tuning, extends the low-frequency reach to 36Hz: a full octave below 70Hz, and enough to reproduce the fundamental of a bass guitar, the body of a cello, and the lowest registers of acoustic piano without a subwoofer.

IsoFlare Point-Source Driver Technology

The IsoFlare driver places the 150mm multi-fibre cone and the 25mm magnesium dome compression tweeter on a shared axis — the tweeter fires from the centre of the cone, so both drivers radiate sound from precisely the same point in space. This point-source geometry delivers consistent time alignment across the listening area and off-axis coherence that a conventional separated-driver arrangement cannot replicate. The magnesium dome is stiffer and lighter than the titanium dome used in the E Series — reducing resonance in the critical presence band and contributing directly to the F501S's resolving midrange character. The same driver appears in the F500S standmount, which means the F501S and F500S share identical midrange and treble voicing — a meaningful advantage for anyone building a system that combines both.

The IsoFlare driver in the F501S features a FyneFlute roll surround and a neodymium HF magnet with vented rear chamber behind the compression driver — the same specification as the F500S.

BassTrax and the Downfiring Port System

The downfiring port in the F501S connects to a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser integrated into the plinth. The Tractrix profile maintains a consistent expansion angle as bass energy exits the port, reducing reflections and smoothing the transition between port output and room. In a floorstander, the downfiring port arrangement is particularly practical — bass exits through the base rather than the rear panel, which gives the F501S substantially better immunity to rear-wall boundary effects than a conventional rear-ported floorstander. This matters in the kind of living room installation where an ideal acoustic placement is rarely achievable.

Presence Control

A rear-facing presence switch provides ±3dB adjustment between 2.5kHz and 5.0kHz. This is a precise and practical tool for adapting the F501S to different rooms and partnering equipment without external equalisation — particularly useful when the speaker is placed closer to side walls or in rooms with more reflective surfaces. The adjustment shifts the tonal balance without altering the fundamental character of the IsoFlare driver.

Cabinet Construction

The cabinet is high-rigidity MDF with extensive internal bracing. The three finish options — Black Oak and Natural Walnut real wood veneers, and Piano Gloss Black — match the F500S standmount exactly, allowing a visually consistent system when the two are used together in a cinema or multichannel configuration.

Who Is It For?

The F501S suits a listener who wants the IsoFlare point-source experience in a full-size floorstander — more bass authority and dynamic headroom than the F500S standmount, without the commitment of the SP range. The 90dB sensitivity and 8Ω impedance are easy for most integrated amplifiers; 30 watts is a realistic minimum, though 50–100 watts is more comfortable for the full dynamic range the speaker offers. The real wood veneer finishes make it well suited to living room installation where appearance matters alongside performance.

For those who want greater bass extension and a larger IsoFlare driver, the Fyne Audio F5S is worth considering as a step further up the S Series. Those building a cinema system around the F501S should look at the Fyne Audio F500S LCR as a matched centre channel — the same IsoFlare driver technology in a horizontal enclosure. The Fyne Audio SuperTrax super tweeter is a natural complement to any F501S system for those seeking extended high-frequency performance, and the Fyne Audio F704SP is the SP Series flagship for those whose ambitions extend beyond the S Series.
