Fyne Audio F5S

The Fyne Audio F5S is the compact standmount of the F500S Series — a speaker that makes an unambiguous statement about what is possible from a 125mm driver in a cabinet of genuinely modest dimensions. The F5S sits in a clear and honest position in the range. The E Series uses titanium dome tweeters and vinyl cabinets. The F5S uses a magnesium dome tweeter and real wood veneer — the same material and finish quality as the F500S. The driver is smaller, the cabinet is smaller, and the bass extension is accordingly more modest. But the IsoFlare point-source geometry — the quality that most directly determines how a speaker images, how it behaves off-axis, and how coherently it presents complex musical information — is identical in principle to the IsoFlare driver in every speaker above it in the range.

IsoFlare Driver Technology

The IsoFlare driver combines the bass/midrange cone and the high-frequency compression tweeter on a shared axis — the tweeter fires from the centre of the bass/midrange cone — so both drivers radiate sound from the same point in space. This point-source behaviour produces consistent time alignment across the listening area and off-axis coherence that a conventional separated-driver arrangement cannot replicate. The imaging stability and tonal consistency that result are the qualities that distinguish a point-source loudspeaker from a conventional two-way design, regardless of price.

In the F5S, the IsoFlare driver is a 125mm multi-fibre cone unit, paired with a 19mm magnesium dome compression tweeter. Magnesium is stiffer and lighter than titanium, which reduces resonance in the critical presence band — a directly audible difference in the resolving character of the tweeter. BassTrax and the Downfiring Port System

The downfiring port connects to a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser built into the base of the cabinet. For a compact standmount, the downfiring arrangement gives the F5S better placement flexibility than a conventional rear-ported design of equivalent size — it is substantially less sensitive to the distance between the rear of the cabinet and the wall behind it, and less critical of stand height relative to the floor boundary. Bass extension reaches 45Hz from a 125mm driver in a 320 × 180 × 260mm cabinet — a figure that is a direct consequence of the BassTrax port tuning rather than driver size alone.

Presence Control

A rear-facing presence switch provides ±3dB adjustment between 2.5kHz and 5.0kHz. This allows the F5S to be voiced for different rooms and partnering equipment without external equalisation — a practical feature that is particularly useful in smaller rooms where early reflections can make a speaker sound brighter than it should, or in systems where the partnering amplifier has a naturally forward character in the upper midrange.

The F5S suits a listener who wants IsoFlare point-source technology with a magnesium dome tweeter in the most compact S Series footprint — for a smaller room, a desktop setup, or an installation where the F500S would be physically too large. The 89dB sensitivity and 8Ω impedance are easy for most integrated amplifiers; 25 watts is a workable minimum in a smaller room. The presence control gives useful flexibility for rooms or systems where the tonal balance needs adjustment without recourse to external equalisation.
