Stillpoints LPI V2 Record Weight
The Stillpoints LPI V2 is a record weight built around the same patented isolation technology that defines the Ultra series of equipment footers — a component that addresses the turntable at the point where vibration is both generated and most damaging: the stylus-to-groove interface itself. Most record weights add mass to the platter and leave it at that. The LPI V2 does something fundamentally different: it absorbs the micro-vibrations that the stylus creates as it tracks the groove, preventing them from circling back through the record and corrupting the signal at source.
Why Micro-Vibrations Matter
As the stylus traces a groove, it generates micro-vibrations that radiate outward through the record. As the LP turns on the platter, those vibrations return to the stylus — an unwanted feedback loop operating at a level too small to hear directly, but large enough to raise the noise floor and blur the retrieval of low-level detail. The LPI V2 places Stillpoints' patented isolation filters directly in the path of this process, absorbing the energy before it completes the loop. The result is a lower noise floor at the source, which in practice means greater clarity in fine detail, more precise image placement, and a wider perceived sense of space around instruments and voices.
Patented Isolation Filters
The isolation mechanism in the LPI V2 uses the same ceramic bearing ball technology developed across the Ultra footer range — a system that converts and dissipates mechanical energy without the frequency-selective colouration that damping materials introduce. The filters are integrated into the body of the weight itself, making the LPI V2 a self-contained isolation device rather than simply a mass-loading tool. It slips over the turntable spindle and rests on the label area of the LP, requiring no modification to the turntable and no additional hardware.
Beyond the Turntable
Stillpoints note a secondary application: the LPI V2 placed on top of a CD player or streamer during playback absorbs vibration from that component's chassis in the same way, lowering the noise floor of a digital source. It is a straightforward test — place it, listen, remove it — and one that a surprising number of owners find as effective on digital sources as on vinyl.
Who Is It For?
The LPI V2 suits any serious vinyl listener who has optimised their turntable setup — cartridge alignment, tracking force, arm geometry — and wants to address what remains. It is not a substitute for correct setup; it is what comes after. Those with high-quality turntables and cartridges will find it the most revealing, because the lower the existing noise floor, the more audible the further reduction becomes. It is also worth trying on any CD transport or streamer in the system — the secondary application is not an afterthought.
