Linn 530 Exakt Active Floorstanding Loudspeaker

The Linn 530 is the definitive self-contained Exakt active loudspeaker — a three-way floorstander that eliminates every compromise inherent in conventional passive loudspeaker design and replaces them with Linn's most sophisticated digital processing, 300 W of dedicated internal amplification, and an Isobarik bass configuration that delivers genuinely extraordinary low-frequency performance from a cabinet that stands just 954 mm tall. There is no passive crossover. There is no speaker cable. There is no external power amplifier to choose, match, or budget for. The signal arrives as a pure digital bitstream from any Linn DSM network player via a single Exakt Link cable, and everything that follows — DAC conversion, crossover filtering, time alignment, drive unit control — happens inside the 530 itself, under total Linn engineering authority.

The case for the 530 is the case for Exakt made physical. In a conventional loudspeaker, however carefully designed, the passive crossover introduces phase errors, power losses, and frequency-dependent timing anomalies that no amount of component quality can fully eliminate. In the 530, each drive unit has its own dedicated DAC and amplifier channel. Crossover filtering and time alignment are applied digitally with a precision that passive components cannot approach. The bass driver and its Isobarik companion are driven with absolute authority; the midrange and tweeter receive exactly the signal intended for them, at exactly the right time. The result is a coherence, timing, and low-level resolution that passive loudspeakers at any price point struggle to match.

Exakt Technology in the 530

The Exakt Link input receives the digital signal directly from any Linn DSM — whether a Linn Majik DSM 5G, a Linn Selekt DSM Edition Hub, or a Linn Klimax DSM. All digital processing — crossover filtering, time alignment, and Space Optimisation room correction — is handled at the DSM before separate digital streams are sent to each drive unit. DAC conversion occurs inside the 530, immediately before the amplification stage for each driver, preserving the shortest possible path from digital data to mechanical movement.

The electronics module is suspension-mounted on the rear of the cabinet, acoustically isolated from the cabinet structure. Each 530 also carries an Exakt Out connection, allowing a second speaker to be daisy-chained from the first rather than requiring two separate cable runs from the DSM — a practical as well as an elegant solution.

Space Optimisation, applied at the DSM rather than in the speaker, models the room acoustically and compensates for boundary reinforcement and room modes. In a domestic listening room, the transformation to bass definition and stereo imaging precision is one that would otherwise require substantial acoustic treatment to replicate.

Cabinet and Drive Units

The 530 is a genuine three-way design: a silk dome tweeter with anti-resonant chamber; a doped, dual-layer sliced-cone midrange driver; and an Isobarik bass configuration — two long-throw, low-resonance bass units loaded against each other in a push-pull arrangement that delivers the low-frequency extension and definition of a considerably larger cabinet within the 530's slim, relatively unobtrusive footprint.

Maximum continuous SPL is 109 dB. Frequency response is rated at 40 Hz to beyond 22 kHz, ±3 dB. Operating volume of the bass chamber is 30 litres.

The 530 is available in a range of Fabrik textile covers, top plate finishes, and stand options — including design collaborations with studios such as Timorous Beasties. The aesthetic can be refreshed over time without replacing the loudspeaker itself, making the 530 as considered in its domestic longevity as it is in its engineering.

For those wishing to extend the low-frequency performance further still, the Linn Exaktbox Sub integrates seamlessly with the 530 system.

Who Is It For?

The 530 is for the listener who wants to enter the Linn Exakt active world decisively — a complete, properly engineered system in a single pair of loudspeakers, requiring nothing beyond a Linn DSM and an Exakt Link cable. The Linn Majik DSM 5G is the natural entry point; the Linn Selekt DSM Edition Hub and Linn Klimax DSM take it progressively further. The 530 responds noticeably to the quality of the upstream DSM — the step from Selekt to Klimax into the same pair of 530s is immediately and consistently audible. There is nothing passive, nothing approximate, and nothing left to chance.

Buying from Martins Hi-Fi

Martins Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968. Elizabeth Gould runs the business today, and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind.

If you have not heard an Exakt active system before, a demonstration of the 530 at our Norwich showroom is the most direct way to understand what the technology actually delivers — the difference between a passive setup and the same source through a pair of 530s is the kind of demonstration that is genuinely difficult to forget.

When you get in touch, you'll be speaking with Dave, Chris and Tim — experienced specialists who can advise on this product and your whole system.
