Linn 530 Exakt Active Floorstanding Loudspeaker

The 530 is a self-contained Exakt active loudspeaker system — a three-way floorstander with Linn's Exakt digital processing electronics, 300W of internal amplification, and an Isobarik bass configuration built into a cabinet that measures 954mm tall and 232mm wide. There is no passive crossover, no speaker cable, and no need for a separate power amplifier. The signal arrives as a digital bitstream from a Linn DSM network player via a single Exakt Link cable.

The case for the 530 is the case for Exakt in physical form. In a conventional loudspeaker — however well designed — the passive crossover introduces phase errors and power losses, the analogue amplifier drives all the drive units from a single channel, and the only correction available is the physical design of the crossover components. In the 530, each drive unit has its own dedicated DAC and amplifier. Crossover filtering and time alignment are applied digitally, with perfect accuracy and without the phase anomalies that passive crossover components introduce. The bass driver and its matching isobarik companion are driven with precision; the midrange and tweeter receive exactly the signal intended for them. The result is timing and coherence that passive loudspeakers at any price struggle to match.

Exakt Technology in the 530

The Exakt Link input receives the digital signal directly from any Linn DSM — whether that is a Majik DSM 5G, a Selekt DSM Edition Hub, or a Klimax DSM. The DSM handles all digital processing including the crossover filtering, time alignment, and Space Optimisation room correction before sending separate streams for each drive unit. DAC conversion happens inside the 530, immediately before the amplification stage for each driver — the shortest possible path from digital data to mechanical movement.

The electronics module is suspension-mounted on the rear of the cabinet to acoustically isolate it from the cabinet structure. Each 530 also carries an Exakt Out connection, allowing a second speaker to be daisy-chained rather than requiring two separate runs from the DSM.

Space Optimisation — applied at the DSM, not in the speaker — models the room acoustically and compensates for boundary reinforcement and room modes. In a domestic listening room, this transforms bass definition and imaging precision in ways that would otherwise require significant acoustic treatment.

Cabinet and Drive Units

The 530 is a genuine three-way design: silk dome tweeter with anti-resonant chamber; a doped, dual-layer sliced-cone midrange driver; and an Isobarik bass configuration — two long-throw bass units loaded against each other in a push-pull arrangement that delivers the low-frequency extension and definition of a much larger cabinet in the 530's slim, relatively unobtrusive footprint.

Maximum continuous SPL is 109 dB. Frequency response is rated at 40 Hz to beyond 22 kHz, ±3 dB. Operating volume of the bass chamber is 30 litres.

The 530 is available in a range of Fabrik textile covers, top plate finishes, and stand options — including collaborations with designers such as Timorous Beasties. The base configuration can be refreshed aesthetically over time without replacing the speaker itself.

Who Is It For?

The 530 is for the listener who wants to enter the Linn Exakt active world without the complexity of building a multi-box active system. Pair it with any Linn DSM — the Majik DSM 5G is the natural entry point — and you have a complete, properly engineered system. There is nothing else to add. No amplifier, no speaker cable, no passive crossover to worry about.

It also suits those who already own a Selekt DSM or Klimax DSM and want to hear what those sources are genuinely capable of with a loudspeaker that keeps pace with them. The 530 responds noticeably to the quality of the upstream DSM — replacing a Selekt with a Klimax into the same pair of 530s is a meaningful step.
