Kaleidescape Strato V Movie Player
The Strato V is a 4K movie player from Kaleidescape that plays films downloaded from the Kaleidescape movie store, in SDR, HDR10 and Dolby Vision, with lossless multichannel audio. It works on its own, with 960GB of solid-state storage built in, or as one player in a larger system grouped with a Terra Prime movie server.
Kaleidescape films are downloaded before you watch them, not streamed, so the picture never drops in quality when the broadband is busy. Kaleidescape's 4K films average 65 megabits per second against the 8 or so that the leading streaming services use for 4K.
Picture
The Strato V plays 4K in standard dynamic range, HDR10 and Dolby Vision, including Dolby Vision low-latency, and upscales HD and SD material to 4K. Output is HDMI 2.1 with HDCP 2.3, and the player switches between 1.78:1 and 2.35:1 automatically, which lets a control system set the screen masking to suit each film.
Sound
Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, DTS:X and DTS-HD Master Audio are all carried losslessly over HDMI, along with multichannel PCM up to 7.1 channels at 96kHz/24-bit. Coaxial and optical digital outputs carry two-channel PCM up to 96kHz/24-bit.
On its own or in a system
Standalone, the internal 960GB drive holds about ten high-bitrate 4K films. A film downloads in as little as ten minutes over gigabit Ethernet and becomes a candidate for automatic deletion 48 hours after it has been watched; anything you have bought can be downloaded again at any time.
Group the Strato V with a Terra Prime movie server and the player's own storage is switched off in favour of the server's library, and the full Kaleidescape interface opens up, including the covers view and parental controls. A system can have any number of Strato players and up to four servers.
Kaleidescape's control protocol is supported by Josh.ai, Crestron, AMX, Control4 and Savant, and the player can also be controlled by Lutron RA3 and HomeWorks over Ethernet, or by IR and HDMI CEC.
