Fyne Audio F5S

The F5S is Fyne Audio's compact standmount from the F500S Series — a 2-way design built around a 125mm IsoFlare point-source driver with a 19mm magnesium dome compression tweeter, housed in a high-rigidity MDF cabinet with a downfiring BassTrax Tractrix port. Frequency response extends from 45Hz to 30kHz, sensitivity is 89dB, and the recommended amplifier power range is 25–100W. Available in Black Oak, Natural Walnut, and Piano Gloss Black, it is smaller than the F500S standmount — 125mm driver versus 150mm — but shares the same magnesium dome tweeter and the same S Series cabinet quality, making it the right choice where a more compact footprint is the priority.

The F5S sits in an interesting position in the Fyne Audio range. It is not the entry-level E Series — the magnesium dome tweeter and real wood veneer finishes place it clearly in the S Series tier. But at 320 × 180 × 260mm, it is genuinely compact: small enough for a desktop, a bookshelf installation, or a smaller listening room where even the F500S would feel oversized. The 45Hz bass extension from a 125mm driver in a cabinet of this size is a direct result of the BassTrax Tractrix port design.

IsoFlare Driver Technology

The IsoFlare driver combines the bass/midrange cone and the high-frequency compression tweeter on a shared axis — the tweeter fires from the centre of the bass/midrange cone — so both drivers radiate sound from the same point in space. This point-source behaviour produces consistent time alignment across the listening area and off-axis coherence that a conventional separated-driver arrangement cannot replicate.

In the F5S, the IsoFlare driver is a 125mm multi-fibre cone unit, paired with a 19mm magnesium dome compression tweeter. The magnesium diaphragm is stiffer and lighter than titanium, reducing resonance in the critical presence band. The crossover hands over at 1.8kHz.

BassTrax and Port System

The downfiring port connects to a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser built into the base of the cabinet. The Tractrix profile maintains a consistent expansion angle as bass energy leaves the port, reducing reflections and smoothing the transition between port output and room. For a compact standmount, this gives the F5S better placement flexibility than a conventional rear-ported design of equivalent size — it is less critical of the distance between the rear of the cabinet and the wall behind it.

Presence Control

A rear-facing presence switch provides ±3dB adjustment between 2.5kHz and 5.0kHz. This allows the F5S to be voiced for different rooms and partnering equipment without external equalisation — a practical feature that is particularly useful in smaller rooms where early reflections can make a speaker sound brighter than it should.

Who Is It For?

The F5S suits a listener who wants IsoFlare point-source technology with a magnesium dome tweeter in the most compact S Series footprint — for a smaller room, a desktop setup, or an installation where the F500S would be physically too large. The 89dB sensitivity and 8Ω impedance are easy for most integrated amplifiers; 25 watts is a workable minimum in a smaller room. The presence control gives useful flexibility for rooms or systems where the tonal balance needs adjustment.

For those who want more driver area and bass extension in the S Series standmount format, the F500S uses a 150mm IsoFlare driver and extends to 45Hz from a larger cabinet. The Fyne Audio Vintage Five is worth comparing for buyers drawn to a heritage aesthetic at a similar price point. Those building a cinema system around the F5S should consider the F5E LCR as a compact centre channel option, and the S-Trax super tweeter as a natural complement for extended HF performance.
