Fyne Audio F502S Floorstanding Speakers

The F502S is the flagship of Fyne Audio's S Series — a 2.5-way floorstanding loudspeaker built around a 200mm IsoFlare point-source driver with a 25mm magnesium dome compression tweeter, a dedicated 200mm bass driver, and a downfiring BassTrax Tractrix port. Frequency response extends from 30Hz to 34kHz, sensitivity is 91dB, and the recommended amplifier power range is 30–180W. Available in Black Oak, Natural Walnut, and Piano Gloss Black, the F502S is the point at which the S Series moves to a larger IsoFlare driver format — the 200mm cone gives meaningfully greater bass extension, dynamic headroom, and radiating area than the 150mm driver in the F500S and F501S.

The step from F501S to F502S is not merely a matter of cabinet size. The 200mm IsoFlare driver is a fundamentally larger driver — it has more cone area, more moving mass, and a correspondingly wider operating range below the crossover frequency. The 30Hz bass extension reflects that, as does the 91dB sensitivity figure, which is 1dB more efficient than the F501S. At 1112 × 300 × 382mm, the F502S is also a physically larger speaker — designed for rooms where a full-size floorstander will be at home.

IsoFlare Driver Technology

The IsoFlare driver combines the bass/midrange cone and the high-frequency compression tweeter on a shared axis — the tweeter fires from the centre of the bass/midrange cone — so both drivers radiate sound from the same point in space. This point-source behaviour produces consistent time alignment across the listening area and off-axis coherence that a conventional separated-driver arrangement cannot replicate.

In the F502S, the IsoFlare driver is a 200mm multi-fibre cone unit with FyneFlute roll surround, paired with a 25mm magnesium dome compression tweeter. The FyneFlute surround enhances transient response and reduces mis-termination effects at the cone surround junction — a specific engineering improvement that affects how accurately fast transients in music are reproduced. Below the IsoFlare unit, a dedicated 200mm multi-fibre bass driver crosses in at 250Hz, handling the lowest frequencies and freeing the IsoFlare unit to operate over its most capable frequency range.

BassTrax and Port System

The downfiring port connects to a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser integrated into the plinth. The Tractrix profile maintains a consistent expansion angle as bass energy leaves the port, reducing reflections and smoothing the bass-to-room transition. In a speaker of this size and bass extension, the downfiring port arrangement is a practical benefit — bass exits through the base rather than the rear panel, making the F502S less sensitive to rear-wall boundary positioning than a conventional rear-ported floorstander of comparable reach.

Presence Control

A rear-facing presence switch provides ±3dB adjustment between 2.5kHz and 5.0kHz. In a speaker with 91dB sensitivity in a large room, the ability to trim the presence region without external equalisation is a useful practical tool — particularly in rooms where the speaker is closer to reflective side walls than is ideal.

Cabinet Construction

The cabinet is high-rigidity MDF with extensive internal bracing. The three finish options — Black Oak and Natural Walnut real wood veneers, and Piano Gloss Black — are consistent across the S Series, allowing a matched system when the F502S is used alongside the F500S LCR centre channel.

Who Is It For?

The F502S suits a listener with a medium to large room who wants the IsoFlare point-source experience in the most capable expression of the S Series — 200mm driver, 30Hz bass extension, 91dB sensitivity — without the price commitment of the SP range. At 91dB sensitivity and 8Ω nominal impedance, it is not a difficult load for most integrated amplifiers, but it will reward a quality amplifier with the headroom to let it breathe. A minimum of 50 watts is advisable for comfortable listening at moderate levels in a larger room.

Those ready to step into the SP range should compare the F502S directly with the F701SP standmount — which uses an F1-8 derived driver and a significantly upgraded crossover — and the F702SP floorstander. Those building a cinema system around the F502S should consider the F500S LCR as a matched centre channel. The Fyne Audio SuperTrax super tweeter is a natural complement to any F502S system for those seeking extended HF performance.
