Fyne Audio F1-5

The F1-5 is the entry point into Fyne Audio's flagship F1 series — a compact standmount loudspeaker hand-built at the company's Scottish factory, centred on a 125mm IsoFlare point-source driver with a 19mm magnesium dome compression tweeter, and a downfiring BassTrax Tractrix diffuser housed within a machined aluminium plinth. Frequency response extends from 46Hz to 28kHz, sensitivity is 90dB, and the recommended amplifier power range of 25–150W makes it compatible with a broad range of partnering electronics. It takes the same core technology found in the larger F1-8 and distils it into a form that suits smaller listening rooms without compromising the engineering principles that define the range. At £4,299 per pair, it is the most accessible way into Fyne Audio's most accomplished series.

IsoFlare Point-Source Driver

The F1-5 is built around Fyne Audio's IsoFlare driver — a 125mm bass/midrange unit with a 19mm magnesium dome compression tweeter mounted coaxially at its centre. Both high and low frequencies originate from the same physical location, creating a true point source. The result is precise time alignment across the frequency range and isotropic radiation — sound spreading evenly in all directions, rather than the high-frequency beaming typical of a conventional separated-driver arrangement. Stereo imaging is precise and stable across a wide listening area, and off-axis performance is substantially better than a conventional standmount of comparable size.

BassTrax Tractrix Diffuser

The machined aluminium plinth beneath the cabinet does more than provide a stable, elegant base. It houses Fyne Audio's BassTrax Tractrix diffuser, which channels low-frequency energy from the downfiring port downward and outward in a controlled pattern. This reduces rear-wall bass build-up and gives the F1-5 a low-frequency performance that belies its compact dimensions. Placement flexibility is genuinely improved as a result — the speaker is less sensitive to room position than many standmounts of comparable size.

FyneFlute Surround

The bass/midrange driver is fitted with Fyne Audio's FyneFlute rubber surround, engineered to minimise resonance and colouration at the point where the cone meets the basket. This matters most at the frequency ranges where the human ear is most discriminating — upper bass and lower midrange — and it contributes to the F1-5's composure at higher listening levels and its low-level detail retrieval.

Cabinet and Finish

The cabinet is hand-finished at Fyne Audio's manufacturing facility in Scotland in real walnut veneer with burr walnut inlay. The construction reflects the attention to material and detail expected at this price point — the F1-5 is a speaker designed to be listened to and looked at in equal measure.

Who Is It For?

The F1-5 suits the serious listener who wants a genuinely high-performance standmount — one that competes with floorstanders on timing, detail retrieval, and soundstage — but who either has a smaller room or simply prefers the aesthetic of a compact speaker. It pairs well with quality integrated amplifiers and benefits from a solid stand and careful positioning. Those undecided between standmount and floorstander within the F1 series should audition the F1-8 alongside it — the F1-8 uses a 200mm IsoFlare and reaches 35Hz, making the comparison instructive. For those approaching from the F700 series, the F701SP is a natural prior comparison. Extended HF performance can be added to any F1 series system with the Fyne Audio SuperTrax super tweeter, and the Fyne Audio Vintage Five is worth considering for those drawn to Fyne's heritage-influenced designs.
