Cyrus 40 CD

The Cyrus 40 CD is a full-featured CD player and digital-to-analogue converter from Cyrus's flagship 40 Series, designed to extract the maximum from your disc collection whilst serving as a high-quality DAC for other digital sources. It sits at the top of the Cyrus digital range and reflects the engineering approach that has defined the brand since the early 1980s.

Precision Transport and ESS Sabre DAC

The 40 CD is built around a precision CD transport mechanism matched to an ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M 32-bit DAC — one of the most capable converter chips in current production. Cyrus have developed their own analogue output stage around this chip rather than relying on a reference design, which allows the DAC's low noise and high dynamic range to be preserved all the way to the output.

The player also accepts digital signals via its coaxial and optical inputs, so it can function as a standalone DAC for a streaming device, television, or any other digital source you want to pass through the same conversion stage.

The 40 PSU Upgrade Path

Like all components in the Cyrus 40 Series, the 40 CD is designed to accept the optional 40 PSU external power supply. Cyrus have long argued — with good reason — that the power supply is one of the most significant variables in analogue performance, and the 40 PSU provides a dedicated, low-noise supply that removes the internal power circuitry from the signal path entirely. Industrial Design and Build

The 40 Series casework is a significant departure from Cyrus's earlier half-width form factor. The 40 CD is a full-width component housed in a machined aluminium enclosure, with a layout and finish that puts it on equal footing with the best-built European and Japanese equipment at this price. The fascia is clean and uncluttered, with a slot-loading mechanism and a straightforward display.
