Cyrus 40 Amp Integrated Amplifier

The Cyrus 40 Amp is the integrated amplifier at the heart of Cyrus's flagship 40 Series — a full-width, fully featured amplifier that combines a high-current power stage, a custom-implemented ESS Sabre 32-bit DAC, and a low-noise phono stage in a single chassis. It is the most complete expression of Cyrus's amplifier engineering to date, and the natural centrepiece of a serious 40 Series system.

Power Amplifier Stage

The 40 Amp delivers 2 × 100W into 6Ω, rising to 2 × 113W with the optional Cyrus 40 PSU external power supply connected. The power stage is a direct development of the amplifier topology Cyrus have refined over four decades — a design philosophy that prioritises timing, control, and low-level detail over headline wattage figures. The result is an amplifier that drives a wide range of loudspeakers with authority, maintaining grip and composure at all listening levels.

ESS Sabre DAC

The 40 Amp includes an ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M 32-bit DAC, with digital inputs via USB-B, optical, and two coaxial connections. This allows the 40 Amp to serve as the DAC for a streaming transport, CD player, or computer audio source without requiring a separate converter in the signal chain. USB-B input supports high-resolution audio directly from a computer, making the 40 Amp a capable and complete desktop or main system hub.

Phono Stage

A low-noise Moving Magnet phono stage is built in, designed to complement quality turntables without requiring a separate phono preamplifier at this level. For those who prefer a dedicated phono stage — particularly with a Moving Coil cartridge — the Cyrus 40 PPA is the natural upgrade within the same series.

Connectivity

The 40 Amp provides four analogue inputs alongside the digital inputs and phono stage, covering every realistic source configuration. Outputs include an analogue preamplifier output for use with a separate power amplifier, a fixed output, and a headphone output — making the 40 Amp a genuine all-in-one solution for listeners who want a single component at the centre of their system.

40 Series Design

The 40 Amp is built in the full-width machined aluminium casework shared across the 40 Series, with a toughened glass front panel and hidden-until-lit capacitive touch controls. The 40 Series represents a significant departure from Cyrus's earlier half-width format — wider, more substantial, and designed to sit comfortably alongside the best European and Japanese integrated amplifiers at this price point.

The 40 PSU Upgrade

Like all components in the 40 Series, the 40 Amp accepts the optional Cyrus 40 PSU external power supply. The 40 PSU provides a dedicated low-noise supply that raises power output from 2 × 100W to 2 × 113W into 6Ω and removes the power conversion circuitry from the main chassis — with tangible benefits for dynamic headroom, noise floor, and low-level resolution.
