Cyrus 40 Amp Integrated Amplifier

The 40 Amp is Cyrus's most fully-featured integrated amplifier in the 40 Series — the point in the range where digital performance, analogue capability, and home entertainment integration converge in a single chassis. It handles streaming sources, vinyl, and HDMI audio from a television or projector. Whether you are building a dedicated two-channel system or a hybrid music and home cinema setup, the 40 Amp is designed to sit at the centre of it.

Power Amplifier

The wideband power amplifier responds from DC to beyond 100kHz, ensuring ruler-flat frequency response and keeping phase shifts out of the audio band. Power output is 100W per channel into 6Ω. The power supply is generously over-specified — a deliberate engineering decision that gives the output stage the current reserve to handle demanding loudspeakers without compression.

For those who want to go further, the Cyrus 40 PSU external power supply connects to the 40 Amp via a single cable. The 40 PSU provides multiple digitally controlled, internally regulated output voltages — extremely stable and virtually noise-free. It is a meaningful step up from the already capable internal supply.

ESS Sabre DAC — ES9039Q2M

The DAC is based on the ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M chipset with HyperStream IV Dual DAC technology. The circuit has been designed entirely by Cyrus's R&D team — not a reference design adopted from the chipset manufacturer, but a custom implementation tuned to extract the best possible performance from the ES9039Q2M. Every component has been individually analysed and the board layout fully optimised.

The 40 Amp supports up to 32-bit 768kHz PCM and DSD1024 audio files. At Cyrus's own assessment, the DAC implementation in the 40 Amp reaches a level of performance not previously seen in a Cyrus product.

MM Phono Stage

The built-in MM phono stage inherits its design features from the Classic Phono — Cyrus's dedicated phono preamplifier. It is designed for low background noise and high dynamic range, providing a phono stage that performs well above what its position inside an integrated amplifier might suggest. For those running a Cyrus TTP Turntable or any quality MM-cartridge turntable, no separate phono preamplifier is required.

For those wanting MC capability or multiple turntable inputs, the Cyrus 40 PPA dedicated phono preamplifier is the natural companion.

HDMI eARC

The 40 Amp includes an HDMI eARC input. This allows audio from a television — streaming services, Blu-ray, broadcast — to be routed directly to the 40 Amp and played through your loudspeakers without a separate AV receiver or soundbar. It is a practical solution for those who want a serious two-channel music system that also handles television audio properly. The addition of eARC at this price point is not common; Cyrus's inclusion of it reflects the 40 Amp's positioning as a genuine home entertainment hub rather than a music-only component.

Display

The 40 Amp is housed in the 40 Series aluminium casing and features a 5-inch high-resolution full-colour TFT display. At a practical level, this provides clear source identification, volume readout, and input status at a glance. It also reflects the 40 Series design direction — a more contemporary aesthetic than the Classic range, suited to modern living spaces.

40 PSU Upgrade Path

Even with its custom-designed switch mode internal power supply, the 40 Amp benefits further from the addition of the Cyrus 40 PSU. The 40 PSU provides multiple regulated supplies to the 40 Amp via a single cable connection. All output voltages from the 40 PSU are digitally controlled internally — extremely stable and virtually noise-free. If you are buying the 40 Amp as a long-term component, the 40 PSU upgrade path is worth planning for from the outset.

Who Is It For?

The 40 Amp is for the listener who wants a single, high-performance integrated amplifier capable of handling every source in a modern system — digital streaming, vinyl, and television audio — without compromise on any of them. The HDMI eARC input makes it genuinely useful in a living room context where the system serves both music and television. The DAC implementation and phono stage mean no external DAC or phono preamplifier is needed for most systems.

It is not the right choice for those who need MC phono capability — the Cyrus 40 PPA addresses that. For those who want to add a CD source, the Cyrus 40 CD pairs naturally with the 40 Amp.
