Vitus Audio SIA-030: The Integrated Amplifier That Had to Beat Itself

The Vitus Audio SIA-030 is a remarkable achievement in high-end audio engineering — a Signature Series integrated amplifier that was tasked not with defeating the competition, but with surpassing its own legendary predecessor, the SIA-025. That is a harder brief than it sounds.

Vitus Audio was founded by Hans Ole Vitus, who built the brand from nothing into one of the most respected names in high-end audio. Having proved themselves against established competition, the engineers at Vitus set about the formidable challenge of bettering an amplifier that had already accumulated a substantial collection of industry accolades. The result — delayed by nearly a year while the team fine-tuned every last detail — is the SIA-030.

Thinking Inside the Box

One of the central engineering challenges for the SIA-030 was deceptively simple: keep the chassis compact. At 435mm wide, 532mm deep and 270mm tall, this is not a small amplifier by any means, but for what it contains, it is a masterclass in packaging. The chassis is machined from aluminium throughout, and at 63kg it has the kind of solidity that communicates purpose before a note is played.

The SIA-030 employs the regulated power supply developed for the output stage of the Vitus Masterpiece MP-M201, combined with new technology for the lower voltage stages. The result is an amplifier capable of delivering approximately 30W in pure Class A or 200W in Class AB into 8 ohms — and 60W Class A or 400W Class AB into 4 ohms. Those are not numbers arrived at by compromise.

A Volume Control Worth Talking About

The volume control in the SIA-030 uses a relay-controlled fixed resistor network — a topology that avoids the noise and channel imbalance inherent in conventional potentiometers. It operates in 0.5dB steps across a range of -89dB to +13dB. At this level of engineering, control quality matters as much as output quality.

Connectivity and Optional Modules

The SIA-030 accepts three XLR balanced analogue inputs and two RCA inputs, with a single set of speaker terminals and one RCA pre-output per channel. Input impedance is 10kΩ on both balanced and unbalanced inputs, and output impedance sits at a very low 0.075Ω — a figure that speaks directly to the amplifier's authority over loudspeaker drive units.

Signal-to-noise ratio is greater than 120dB at 1kHz, and THD plus noise is below 0.01%. Frequency response extends to beyond 800kHz. These are the figures of a no-compromise design.

Two optional plug-and-play modules are available. The first is a DAC and streaming module offering AES, SPDIF, optical and USB inputs alongside an Ethernet connection supporting Airplay 2 and Roon. USB handles up to DSD. The second is a phonostage supporting both MM and MC cartridges, with up to 70dB of gain and individual load and gain settings stored per input — a thoughtful provision for serious vinyl listeners.

Where the SIA-030 Sits in the Vitus Range

The SIA-030 is the flagship of the Vitus Signature Series integrated amplifier line, sitting above the Vitus RI-101 MK2 and representing a significant step up in both power supply sophistication and engineering ambition. Those who want the full Vitus Signature Series experience in separate form can explore the VITUS SS-025 power amplifier or the VITUS SM-011 monoblock amplifiers.
