Solidsteel HW2 Audio Video Rack
The Solidsteel HW2 is a wide-format AV rack from the Hyperspike Series, designed specifically for home cinema and audio-video systems where a wide-screen television sits alongside source components and processing electronics. Where most AV furniture is designed around aesthetics first, the HW2 applies Solidsteel's engineering discipline to a format that typically gets overlooked: the wide, low-profile rack that anchors a living room system. The result is a three-shelf structure that can support a large television and the components beneath it without compromise to either stability or performance.
Hyperspike Wide Series
The HW2 belongs to Solidsteel's Hyperspike Wide Series — a distinct line within the Hyperspike family developed to accommodate wide-screen displays alongside AV components. The defining feature is a five-pillar structure, which provides the additional lateral support needed when a television of significant size and weight sits across the top of the rack. The geometry of the five pillars is engineered to distribute load evenly and resist the rocking and flex that affect lesser AV furniture, particularly as screen sizes have grown.
The pillars are solid steel rods — the same material and construction standard found throughout the Hyperspike Series. At the base, adjustable flat feet allow the rack to be levelled precisely on any floor surface, which is important both for display geometry and for the mechanical stability that underpins the rack's vibration management function. The feet lock securely once positioned.
Hardware throughout is stainless steel. Shelf material is MDF — medium-density fibreboard — chosen for its mass and acoustic properties relative to glass or open-frame alternatives. Each shelf is rated to a load capacity of 130 kg, which is sufficient for the heaviest current AV receivers, power amplifiers, and display panels.
Design and Finish
The HW2 is available in three finishes: Flat Black, Glossy Black, and Glossy White. The wide format and clean lines suit both dedicated home cinema rooms and living spaces where the rack forms a central visual element. The five-pillar structure gives the HW2 a distinctive appearance that reads as purposeful rather than decorative — which is appropriate, given that it is.

Who Is It For?
The HW2 is for the home cinema enthusiast or AV system owner who wants furniture that matches the quality of their electronics. If you have invested in a serious AV receiver, a quality disc player or streamer, and a large display, the surface they sit on affects both their stability and the mechanical environment they operate in. The HW2 addresses that without requiring a compromise on appearance.
Three shelves handles the most common AV configurations — display, AV receiver, and source component — comfortably. At 130 kg per shelf, it will support any current production television or electronics without concern.
For those building a dedicated two-channel system alongside or instead of an AV setup, the Solidsteel HF4 Audio Rack offers four shelves of Hyperspike engineering in a vertical format. The Solidsteel S5-3 is a more accessible entry point into the Solidsteel rack range. For a dedicated turntable platform, the Solidsteel WS Series is worth considering alongside any system that includes a record player.
