Rega Carbon MM Cartridge
The Carbon is Rega's entry point into the world of moving magnet cartridges, and it is a considered piece of engineering rather than a token gesture at an accessible price. Made in England, it carries the same philosophy that runs through the entire Rega cartridge range: keep the signal path as clean and direct as possible, and let the music speak for itself.
Carbon Cantilever
The cantilever is the bridge between the stylus tip and the cartridge body, and the material from which it is made has a direct bearing on how faithfully that signal is transmitted. Rega specify a carbon cantilever here — a material chosen for its rigidity and low mass, which allows it to track the groove with accuracy and respond to fine detail without the flexing or resonance that heavier or less stiff materials can introduce. The result is a cartridge that retrieves what is in the groove and passes it on cleanly.
Conical Stylus Profile
The Carbon is fitted with a conical stylus, which is a robust and well-proven profile suited to everyday listening. A conical tip makes consistent contact with the groove wall and is forgiving of minor alignment variations, which matters when the cartridge is set up by those new to analogue. For those who want to extract more from their vinyl, Rega offer the optional Carbon Pro elliptical stylus upgrade — a drop-in replacement that uses a finer elliptical profile to track groove modulations with greater precision, and a sensible next step once the listening bug has properly taken hold.
Rega Three-Point Mounting
The Carbon uses Rega's proprietary three-point mounting system, which locates the cartridge securely and repeatably in compatible Rega tonearms. This is not merely a convenience — a cartridge that sits correctly and cannot shift under use maintains its alignment and, with it, its performance. The stylus is also fully detachable, which makes cleaning straightforward and replacement simple when the time comes.

Who Is It For?
It is not for those wanting the last word in analogue resolution — the Rega Nd5 and Rega Nd9 sit higher in the range and are worth the step up when the system and the ear are ready for them. But as a starting point, the Carbon is honest, well-made, and built to Rega's own exacting standards.
