Linn Selekt DSM Classic Hub

The Selekt DSM Classic Hub is the entry point to Linn's modular Selekt platform at £5,650 — a network music player and preamplifier that operates as a hub component within the Linn DSM range, rather than an all-in-one integrated amplifier. It does not include a power amplifier: it is a source component that outputs via Exakt Link to Exakt-compatible speakers, or via analogue outputs to separate amplification.

The Classic Hub differs from the Selekt DSM Edition Hub in its chassis: the Classic uses a machined aluminium base with a folded upper case, while the Edition Hub is all-machined aluminium with a mirrored spy glass panel and a precision stainless steel control bearing. The underlying electronics, streaming capability, and upgrade path are shared.

Modular Architecture

The Selekt DSM platform uses a modular cartridge architecture. Three slots in the chassis accept Linn-designed output cards and a DAC module. Output cards cover stereo line-level, stereo power amplifier, mono line-level, subwoofer, and HDMI AV outputs. The DAC module — Standard, Katalyst, or Organik — is selected independently.

For the Classic Hub, the primary output path is Exakt Link: two Exakt Link outputs connect to Exakt-compatible speakers such as the Linn 530, bypassing the internal DAC entirely and carrying the digital signal to the speaker where conversion happens as close to the drive unit as possible. In an Exakt configuration, the Classic Hub's DAC module becomes relevant for analogue outputs only — for conventional amplification, or as a fallback.

The modular design means a Classic Hub purchased today with a Standard DAC module can be upgraded to Katalyst or Organik later. The chassis remains; only the DAC cartridge changes.

Streaming and Connectivity

The Selekt DSM Classic Hub supports high-resolution audio to 24-bit/384 kHz and includes a built-in MM/MC phono stage for direct turntable connection. Space Optimisation — Linn's room correction — is included as standard across the Selekt range.

Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, Ethernet (100Base-T), and HDMI ARC/eARC for television audio integration. Supported streaming services include Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify Connect, Deezer, AirPlay 2, and Roon Ready.

Digital inputs cover two Toslink optical, two SPDIF coaxial, and USB Type-B for direct computer connection. Analogue inputs include two RCA line-level connections, as well as the integrated MM/MC phono stage.

Who Is It For?

The Selekt DSM Classic Hub suits the listener who wants to enter the Linn Exakt ecosystem at a considered price point and work upwards. It is the right choice for those who already have, or plan to build, an Exakt active system using the Linn 530 or other Exakt-compatible speakers — the Exakt Link output is central to what it does.

It also suits those using conventional passive amplification who want a network player and preamplifier with a genuine upgrade path: the DAC module can be swapped from Standard to Katalyst or Organik without replacing the chassis. The Classic finish is more restrained than the Edition, which suits some rooms and systems better.

For those who want the all-machined aluminium chassis and the stainless steel control bearing, the Selekt DSM Edition Hub is the step up — same electronics, different physical execution.

Buying from Martin's Hi-Fi

Martin's Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968, and the Linn range has been part of what we do for years. We are still family-run — Ted Martin's daughter Elizabeth runs the business today — and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind.

The configuration conversation matters with the Selekt DSM — the right DAC module and output cards depend on your system, and we are well placed to advise on that before you order.
