Linn Akurate Exaktbox 6 Channel
The Akurate Exaktbox is the component that makes Linn's Exakt technology available to speakers that do not have amplification built in. It is, in one box, an Exakt digital crossover, a Katalyst DAC, and a power amplifier — everything required to drive an Exakt-capable speaker system actively from a Linn DSM source.
The 6-channel version supports speakers up to 3-way active configuration, with six channels of DAC conversion and eight channels of 100W Chakra amplification. This is a substantial and capable piece of equipment.
What the Akurate Exaktbox Does
The starting point for understanding the Exaktbox is the Exakt technology itself. In a conventional hi-fi system, the signal goes from source to preamplifier, then through an analogue crossover inside the speaker, then to separate amplifiers for each driver. Each of those stages — particularly the analogue crossover — introduces distortion, phase error, and loss of information.
Exakt eliminates the analogue crossover entirely. The signal travels from the Linn DSM via Exakt Link — a digital connection — to the Exaktbox, where it is processed in the digital domain. The crossover division, time alignment, and individual driver equalisation all happen mathematically, before DAC conversion. The DAC converts the signal into analogue immediately before the amplifier stage, at which point the signal is fed directly to the individual drive units of the loudspeaker.
The result is a crossover that can achieve phase-linear behaviour, correct for individual drive unit manufacturing tolerances, and maintain the integrity of the signal in a way that an analogue crossover cannot approach.
Katalyst DAC Architecture
The Akurate Exaktbox 6 Channel incorporates Katalyst DAC architecture — the DAC technology from Linn's flagship Klimax range, brought into the Akurate tier. Katalyst is Linn's implementation of a precision reference voltage and current source for the DAC conversion stage, addressing a fundamental limitation of standard chip-based DAC designs. The practical result is a more accurate, lower-noise conversion that preserves more of the musical information in the source signal.
This is a meaningful specification point. Many competing active speaker solutions use standard DAC chips without this level of attention to the conversion stage. The Katalyst architecture is a genuine performance advantage.
Amplification
The Akurate Exaktbox 6 Channel incorporates 8 channels of 100W Chakra amplification. Chakra is Linn's proprietary amplifier topology, developed in-house. Each channel drives one speaker driver directly, without speaker cable travelling through a passive crossover network — the signal degradation associated with passive crossovers and long speaker runs is eliminated.
100W per channel into each individual driver — rather than a single higher-power amplifier shared across a full passive speaker — is a very different proposition in terms of control and dynamic headroom for that driver.
Connectivity and Future-Proofing
The Akurate Exaktbox connects to a Linn DSM via two Exakt Link connections. It provides 6 line outputs (RCA phono) and 16 speaker output connections (banana/binding post). The Linn Dynamik power supply is used throughout.
The Exaktbox is software-upgradeable, which means speaker-specific profiles — the filter sets and driver timing corrections that define the crossover for a particular loudspeaker — can be updated or added via software rather than hardware replacement. If you change speakers, the Exaktbox can be reconfigured accordingly.

Who Is It For?
The Akurate Exaktbox 6 Channel is for the Linn system owner who wants to run Exakt-capable loudspeakers actively — typically someone with an existing pair of Linn passive speakers that have Exakt compatibility, or someone building an Exakt active system from the ground up with a Linn DSM as the hub.
It is a serious piece of equipment at a serious price point. The Utopik power supply upgrade is available for the Akurate Exaktbox (see Utopik), which brings its power supply up to the current standard if you have an earlier version of the unit.
If you are considering the Akurate Exaktbox, the right starting point is a conversation about your speakers, your current DSM, and what the Exakt upgrade path looks like in your specific system.
Buying from Martin's Hi-Fi
Martin's Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968, and the Linn range has been part of what we do for years. We are still family-run — Ted Martin's daughter Elizabeth runs the business today — and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind.
We have extensive experience with Linn Exakt systems at Akurate level — configuring Exaktboxes for specific speaker profiles, carrying out Space Optimisation, and helping customers get the most from this technology. This is not a product you buy in isolation; we are involved in the setup and ongoing configuration.
