Fyne Audio SuperTrax Super Tweeter

The Fyne Audio SuperTrax is the flagship super tweeter — a time-aligned, omnidirectional high-frequency extension unit that represents Fyne Audio's most refined approach to the fundamental question of what a loudspeaker system leaves out. At £2,999 per pair in Walnut or Piano Gloss Black, the SuperTrax does not add something foreign to a system — it restores what the main drivers cannot deliver above their operating range, and in doing so improves the coherence, space, and low-level resolution of the entire system in ways that are audible well below the frequencies the SuperTrax itself reproduces. It is one of the more counterintuitive upgrades in high-end audio, and one of the most consistently rewarding.

The concept is precisely analogous to a subwoofer — not in the frequencies it handles, but in the mechanism by which it improves a system. A subwoofer does not simply add bass: it improves phase coherence below the main speakers' crossover point, and that improvement is audible as better definition, timing, and bass articulation across the full frequency range. The SuperTrax works on the same principle at the top end. Extending the frequency response beyond the main drivers' limits and improving the phase and harmonic integrity of the audible band in the process, the SuperTrax makes a system sound more complete — more resolved, more open, more precisely timed — than the main speakers alone can achieve. The effect on perceived bass definition — tighter, better timed, more articulate — is one of the more reliably reported consequences of adding a super tweeter, and one of the most useful in explaining why high-frequency extension matters to listeners who do not consider themselves treble-focused.

Omnidirectional Time-Aligned Design

A conventional tweeter fires directly forward. The SuperTrax radiates in all directions from its position on top of the main speaker — a fundamental difference in radiation geometry that determines how its output integrates with the rest of the system. Omnidirectional dispersion blends the SuperTrax's high-frequency output with both the direct sound from the main speakers and the reflected sound from the room boundaries — walls, ceiling, floor — in a way that a forward-firing unit cannot replicate. The result is a more even distribution of high-frequency energy throughout the listening space: the sense of air, space, and ambient detail that characterises the SuperTrax's effect on a system is a direct consequence of this radiation pattern.

Time alignment ensures the SuperTrax's output arrives at the listening position in correct phase relationship with the main speakers. Without time alignment, the addition of a super tweeter introduces phase anomalies that degrade imaging and focus rather than improving them — the SuperTrax's geometry is calibrated so that its output integrates correctly with the main driver's radiation pattern, and the improvement to soundstage precision and low-level detail that follows is a direct consequence of that calibration.

Positioning and Compatibility

The SuperTrax sits on top of the main speaker. Piano Gloss Black units include adjustable feet as standard; Walnut units have optional adjustable feet available separately. The adjustable feet are designed specifically to accommodate sloping speaker tops, including Fyne Audio's F700 Series cabinets. The SuperTrax is compatible with any quality loudspeaker system — it is not limited to Fyne Audio speakers, and its effect is audible on high-end speakers from other manufacturers that already operate at a high level. It is a natural complement to the Fyne Audio F704SP, the Fyne Audio F1-8s, and the Fyne Audio F1-10s.

The Walnut finish is designed to match the Fyne Audio Vintage Series aesthetic. The Piano Gloss Black finish matches the SP and F700 Series finish options.

The S-Trax Comparison

Fyne Audio also make the Fyne Audio S-Trax — a more compact super tweeter at £1,000 per pair, derived from the SuperTrax and optimised for the F500 Series. The SuperTrax is the flagship: larger, more refined in every aspect of its execution, and designed for systems where the main speakers are already operating at a high level. The S-Trax is the right choice for F500E, F500S, and F500SP Series systems; the SuperTrax is the right choice when the main speakers are from the F700 Series, the F1 Series, or equivalent high-end speakers from other manufacturers. The two should be considered in the context of the main speakers they accompany — at their respective price points, each is correctly specified for its intended application.

Who Is It For?

The SuperTrax is for the listener who has a high-quality loudspeaker system — Fyne Audio or otherwise — and wants to understand what it is capable of with extended high-frequency support. It is not an obvious upgrade in the way a new amplifier or source component is: its effect is systemic rather than dramatic, and it operates on recordings rather than on individual instruments or frequency bands. Listeners who respond most strongly to low-level detail, soundstage depth, and the sense of inhabiting a recording space rather than listening to a recording are the natural audience.

It is also the natural completion for a system already running the Fyne Audio F704SP or the Fyne Audio F1-10s. At £2,999, it is priced as a serious component and should be evaluated as one — ideally on your own system, in our Norwich showroom.

Buying from Martins Hi-Fi

Martins Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968. Elizabeth Gould runs the business today, and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind. The SuperTrax is available to hear at our Norwich showroom — bring your own recordings and we will demonstrate it on a relevant system so you can judge its effect for yourself.

When you get in touch, you'll be speaking with Dave, Chris and Tim — experienced specialists who can advise on whether the SuperTrax or the S-Trax is the right choice for your speakers and your system.
