Fyne Audio F703 Floorstanding Speaker

The F703 marks a significant step within the F700 range — a UK-built 2.5-way floorstander using a 250mm IsoFlare point-source driver with a 75mm titanium dome compression tweeter. This is a fundamentally different driver to the 25mm magnesium dome used in the F700, F701, and F702 below it — greater surface area, a different diaphragm geometry, and a substantially different motor arrangement. Sensitivity is 94dB, the frequency response extends from 26Hz to 26kHz, and the amplifier power range of 20–250W reflects how efficiently the F703 loads most amplifiers. The F700 range draws directly on engineering from Fyne's F1 flagship series, and every speaker is designed and hand-built at Fyne Audio's Scottish factory.

The move from a 25mm magnesium dome to a 75mm titanium dome compression tweeter is not a refinement — it is a different approach to high-frequency reproduction. Buyers comparing the F702 and F703 should listen to both; the difference in scale and authority is considerable.

The F700 Range

The F700 series is Fyne Audio's premium UK-built offering, drawing on engineering developed for the F1 flagship series. Every speaker is designed and hand-built at Fyne's Scottish factory. The F703 sits in the upper section of the F700 range — above the F702, which uses a 200mm IsoFlare and 25mm tweeter, and below the F704, which moves to the largest 300mm IsoFlare in the range.

IsoFlare Driver Technology

The IsoFlare driver combines bass/midrange cone and high-frequency compression tweeter on a shared axis — the tweeter fires from the centre of the bass/midrange driver — so both drivers radiate from the same point in space. This point-source geometry gives consistent time alignment between bass, mid, and treble across the listening area, and off-axis coherence that a physically separated two-driver array cannot match.

In the F703, the IsoFlare uses a 250mm multi-fibre bass/midrange cone with a FyneFlute roll surround, paired with a 75mm titanium dome compression tweeter. The 75mm titanium dome is a fundamentally more capable high-frequency driver than the 25mm magnesium dome in the F700, F701, and F702 — greater surface area, different diaphragm geometry, and a substantially different motor arrangement. It is this driver that gives the F703 its 94dB sensitivity and its extended dynamic capability at volume.

Below the IsoFlare, a dedicated 250mm multi-fibre bass cone with FyneFlute surround handles the lowest frequencies in the 2.5-way configuration.

BassTrax and Twin-Cavity Loading

The downfiring port connects to a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser built into the speaker's base. The Tractrix profile smooths the transition between port output and room. The twin-cavity cabinet loading gives the bass section additional acoustic control, contributing to the 26Hz extension.

Crossover and Connections

The crossover divides at 200Hz and 850Hz — reflecting the larger driver sizes and the different operating range of the 75mm tweeter. It is a bi-wired passive low-loss design with Cryo-Lite treatment applied to the crossover components. The connection panel includes a fifth terminal to earth the driver chassis, eliminating RF interference from the amplifier or cables.

Who Is It For?

The F703 suits a listener who wants a speaker capable of filling a larger room with real authority, and who values sensitivity as much as extension. At 94dB, it responds to amplifiers that would be modestly powered on the F702 — a well-matched valve amplifier or a low-power solid-state design will drive it to serious levels. The 26Hz extension is deep enough for the full range of recorded music without augmentation.

The 75mm titanium dome tweeter is the feature that most distinguishes it from the rest of the F700 range. If you have heard the F702 and found it resolving but wanted more top-end scale and presence, the F703 is the answer.

Those considering a further step up should look at the F704, which moves to a 300mm IsoFlare with the same 75mm titanium tweeter and extends to 24Hz. For the Special Production upgrade of the F703, the F703SP adds F1-10 derived drivers, a birch ply cabinet, premium crossover components, and an F1-grade aluminium plinth. Those building around the F703 should also consider pairing with the Fyne Audio SuperTrax super tweeter to extend HF performance further still, and the F704SP sits above both for those whose systems demand the very best of the SP range.

Buying from Martins Hi-Fi

Martins Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968. Elizabeth Gould runs the business today, and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind. The F703 is available to hear in our Norwich showroom — call ahead and we will have it set up for you. Dave and Chris can advise on amplifier matching, room suitability, and whether the F703 or the F704 is the right choice for your system.
