Fyne Audio F502E LCR Centre Channel Speaker

The F502E LCR is Fyne Audio's entry-level centre channel speaker — designed to match the F501E floorstander in an affordable home cinema system. LCR stands for left, centre, right: this speaker is built to work in any of those three positions, giving the option of a fully matched IsoFlare front stage when three F502E LCR units are used together. It uses a 200mm IsoFlare driver — larger than the 150mm unit in the F501E mains — which helps it keep up in terms of sensitivity (92dB) and bass extension (48Hz) in a horizontal enclosure. It supports both freestanding and wall-mounted installation, and is sold individually.

IsoFlare Driver Technology

The IsoFlare driver is the central engineering decision in every Fyne Audio loudspeaker. It places the bass/midrange cone and the high-frequency compression tweeter on a shared axis — the tweeter fires from the centre of the cone — so both drivers radiate sound from a single point in space. This point-source behaviour means the frequency response off-axis is consistent across the seating area, which matters particularly for a centre channel where listeners are spread across a wide angle relative to the speaker.

In the F502E LCR, the IsoFlare driver is a 200mm multi-fibre cone unit with a 25mm titanium dome compression tweeter at its centre. The larger 200mm cone gives more radiating area than the 150mm driver in the F501E, which supports the higher sensitivity figure and gives the LCR sufficient output to balance with a pair of floorstanders. A second 200mm bass driver is mounted alongside, and a 200mm Auxiliary Bass Radiator (ABR) handles the low-frequency loading.

Auxiliary Bass Radiator

An Auxiliary Bass Radiator (ABR) is a passive radiating cone — it has no voice coil or magnet, but is tuned to move in sympathy with the bass pressure inside the cabinet. It extends low-frequency output without a port tube. In a centre channel application, this avoids the placement constraints of a rear-ported design: there is no port to keep clear of a wall or equipment rack. The ABR in the F502E LCR is electromagnetically damped, which has been calibrated for the cabinet size and the IsoFlare driver tuning.

LCR Configuration

The LCR designation means this speaker is designed to work in left, centre, and right positions — not only as a dedicated centre channel. Three F502E LCR units across the front of a cinema system gives a completely matched IsoFlare front stage: the same driver technology, the same crossover frequencies, the same timbre in all three positions. This is a meaningful advantage in a cinema context, where the transition of sound effects and music across the front soundstage is more convincing when all three speakers are acoustically consistent.

The speaker supports wall mounting for the left and right positions, and freestanding placement for the centre position below or above a screen.

Crossover

The crossover divides at 250Hz and 1.7kHz. The filter topology is 2nd order low-pass and 1st order high-pass.

Who Is It For?

The F502E LCR is for the buyer building a home cinema system around the F501E floorstanders who wants a properly matched centre channel rather than a mismatched compromise. The 92dB sensitivity is well suited to AV receivers; the 8Ω impedance is straightforward to drive. The ABR bass loading means placement is less critical than with a ported design, and wall mounting is supported for left and right positions.

For a buyer who wants to run three matched IsoFlare speakers across the front stage, three F502E LCR units give exactly that. Those stepping up should consider the F57SP-6 — the SP Series centre channel, which uses the same 150mm IsoFlare driver as the F500SP and F501SP and is built to a substantially higher specification. The Fyne Audio Vintage Five is worth considering as a compact front speaker for those who prefer a heritage aesthetic, and the F5S offers a step up in standmount performance for those building a two-channel system alongside their cinema setup.
