Fyne Audio F501SP Floorstanding Speaker

The F501SP is the floorstanding counterpart to the F500SP standmount — a 2.5-way design that adds a dedicated bass driver below the IsoFlare unit to extend low-frequency reach and increase output capability. Where the F500SP goes down to 42Hz, the F501SP reaches 36Hz. It handles up to 180W and plays considerably louder before showing strain. For listeners who want the IsoFlare point-source midrange and treble from the SP Series but need more bass weight and dynamic headroom, the F501SP is the natural step up. At £3,799 per pair, it is hand-built at Fyne's Scottish factory and finished to the same standard as the rest of the SP range.

The F500 SP — Special Production Series

The concept distils some of the very best components and engineering from across Fyne Audio's high-end series into more affordable loudspeaker designs that set new benchmarks for performance at their price. Designed and tuned by Technical Director Dr Paul Mills, and hand-built at Fyne's UK factory, the F500 SP Series brings much of the driver, crossover, and bass tuning expertise from the F700 and F1 Series into the more compact and simpler F500 Series cabinet design.

The F501SP takes that architecture and puts it into a floorstanding enclosure. The cabinet sits on an anodised machined aluminium plinth with diamond machine-cut detailing on the aluminium driver chassis. Four finish options are available: Natural Walnut, Piano Gloss Walnut, Piano Gloss Black, and Piano Gloss White.

IsoFlare Driver Technology

The IsoFlare driver is the central engineering decision in every Fyne Audio loudspeaker. It places the bass/midrange cone and the high-frequency compression tweeter on a shared axis — the tweeter fires from the centre of the cone — so both drivers radiate sound from a single point in space. This point-source behaviour keeps the time relationship between frequencies consistent across the listening area, and off-axis performance is substantially better than a conventional arrangement where the tweeter sits physically above the bass/midrange unit.

In the F501SP, the IsoFlare driver is a 150mm multi-fibre cone with a FyneFlute roll surround. FyneFlute is Fyne Audio's alternative to a standard rubber roll surround — the geometry reduces cone resonances at the driver termination, which improves clarity through the upper bass and lower midrange. The tweeter is a 25mm magnesium dome compression driver with a neodymium magnet system. Below the IsoFlare unit sits a second 150mm multi-fibre bass driver with a FyneFlute surround. That second driver takes responsibility for the lowest frequencies, crossing over at 250Hz, which allows the IsoFlare unit to operate across a narrower, more controlled band.

BassTrax and Port System

The F501SP uses a downfiring port with a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser built into the aluminium plinth. The Tractrix profile expands at a consistent 90-degree angle, which reduces reflections as bass energy leaves the port and smooths its integration into the room. The practical result is a floorstander that is less sensitive to floor-boundary effects and easier to position than most rear-ported designs. Bass loading is more consistent whether the speaker is on a hard floor or carpet, and the port exit — at floor level but directed outward by the diffuser — avoids the boom that a poorly positioned rear port can produce.

Crossover and Connections

The crossover divides at 250Hz and 1.7kHz. The 250Hz point hands off from the dedicated bass driver to the IsoFlare unit; the 1.7kHz point hands off to the compression tweeter. The filter topology is 2nd order low-pass and 1st order high-pass. It is a bi-wired passive design — low-loss components throughout.

Cinema Use

The F501SP pairs naturally with the Fyne Audio F57SP-6 centre channel speaker, which uses the same IsoFlare driver, the same crossover frequencies, and the same SP Series driver quality. Running matched IsoFlare drivers across the front three channels gives consistent timbre from left to centre to right — which matters more in a cinema context than most listeners realise until they hear it done properly.

Who Is It For?

The F501SP suits a listener who wants a full-range floorstander built around serious driver engineering, in a room where both music and cinema matter. The 91dB sensitivity and 8Ω load are straightforward for most integrated amplifiers — 30 watts is a realistic minimum, and the 180W upper limit gives plenty of headroom for larger rooms and more powerful amplification. The BassTrax port system makes placement less critical than with a rear-ported floorstander of this size, which is a genuine practical benefit.

For buyers who have heard the F500SP and want more bass extension and output, the F501SP is the direct next step. For those building a home cinema system with Fyne Audio, the F501SP with the F57SP-6 centre gives a front three that is genuinely matched in driver technology and voicing.
