Fyne Audio F500SP Standmount Speaker
The F500SP is Fyne Audio's most accessible UK-built loudspeaker — the entry point into the Special Production series, which exists to bring engineering from the F700 range into a more compact and more affordable cabinet. It is a two-way standmount built around a 150mm IsoFlare point-source driver and a downfiring port with Fyne's BassTrax Tractrix diffuser. Sensitivity is 90dB and the frequency response extends from 42Hz to 34kHz. At £1,799 per pair, it sits in a section of the market where the quality of the driver engineering matters enormously, and on both counts the F500SP has a serious answer.
The F500 SP — Special Production Series
The concept distils some of the very best components and engineering from across Fyne Audio's high-end series into more affordable loudspeaker designs that set new benchmarks for performance at their price. Designed and tuned by Technical Director Dr Paul Mills, and hand-built at Fyne's UK factory, the F500 SP Series brings much of the driver, crossover, and bass tuning expertise from the F700 and F1 Series into the more compact and simpler F500 Series cabinet design.
The cabinet is finished to a standard that reflects its position in the range: anodised aluminium plinth, diamond-cut aluminium driver trim, and a deep gloss walnut veneer as one of the four standard finish options.
IsoFlare Driver Technology
The IsoFlare driver is the central engineering decision in every Fyne Audio loudspeaker. It combines the bass/midrange cone and the high-frequency compression tweeter on a shared axis — the tweeter fires from the centre of the bass/midrange driver — so both drivers radiate sound from the same point in space. This point-source behaviour means the time relationship between bass, mid, and treble is consistent across the listening area, and off-axis performance is substantially better than a conventional two-driver arrangement where the tweeter sits physically above the bass/midrange unit.
In the F500SP, the IsoFlare driver uses a 150mm multi-fibre cone with a FyneFlute roll surround. FyneFlute is Fyne Audio's alternative to a standard rubber roll surround — the geometry reduces cone resonances at the driver termination, which affects the clarity of the upper bass and lower midrange. The tweeter is a 25mm magnesium dome compression driver with a neodymium magnet system. The bass/midrange motor system uses a twin-magnet arrangement.
BassTrax and Port System
The F500SP uses a downfiring port that connects to a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser built into the plinth. The Tractrix profile maintains a consistent 90-degree angle at the expanding wavefront as bass energy leaves the port, which reduces reflections and smooths the transition between the port output and the room. The practical result is a speaker that is less sensitive to floor-boundary effects and easier to place than a conventional rear-ported design — bass integration is more consistent across a range of stand heights and room positions.
Crossover and Connections
The crossover divides at 1.7kHz: 2nd order low-pass on the bass/midrange, 1st order high-pass on the tweeter. It is a bi-wire passive design. The connection panel is a five-terminal design — four for bi-wiring, plus a fifth terminal to earth the driver chassis, which eliminates RF interference conducted through the amplifier or cables.
Stands
Fyne Audio make the FS6 stand specifically for the F500SP. It is a heavy steel and aluminium design — 611mm tall (excluding spikes), with a 160 × 230mm top plate that matches the F500SP's footprint. The central column is mass-loadable for additional damping. Available in black at £599.99 per pair.

Who Is It For?
The F500SP suits a listener who wants a proper standmount — not a budget compromise but a speaker built around a serious driver technology — in a room where a floorstander is too large or too much. The 90dB sensitivity and 8Ω impedance make it easy to drive; 30 watts is enough for a smaller room, and the 120W upper limit gives headroom for more powerful amplification. The BassTrax system means it is less fussy about placement than most speakers at this size, which is a real practical advantage in a living room.
It is also a natural first step into the Fyne Audio range for a buyer who wants to understand what IsoFlare technology sounds like before considering the larger F700 models.
Buying from Martin's Hi-Fi
Martin's Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968. Elizabeth Gould runs the business today, and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind. The F500SP is available to hear in our Norwich showroom — call ahead and we will have it set up for you. Dave and Chris can advise on stand matching, system pairing, and whether the F500SP or a Fyne Audio floorstander is the right fit for your room.
