Fyne Audio F1-12s
The F1-12s is Fyne Audio's flagship loudspeaker — the most complete expression of the company's point-source engineering, built around a single 300mm IsoFlare driver with FyneFlute surround technology and a 75mm titanium dome compression tweeter. It is a 2-way design in a twin-cavity cabinet supported on a 20kg machined aluminium plinth housing Fyne's BassTrax Tractrix diffuser, reaching 24Hz in-room from a single driver of extraordinary scale. Sensitivity is 96dB, nominal impedance is 8Ω, and the recommended amplifier power range of 20–350W encompasses everything from low-powered valve designs to the most powerful solid-state amplifiers available. Every F1-12s is hand-built at Fyne Audio's Scottish factory — the definitive statement of what the company makes.
Dr Paul Mills and his development team comprehensively reimagined the crossover from the original F1-12 and upgraded the 300mm IsoFlare to include FyneFlute surround technology — the same development that distinguishes the entire F1 S-series from its predecessors. The result is enhanced low-frequency performance and a more cohesive transition through the midrange and into the extended HF bandwidth.
IsoFlare Driver Technology
The 300mm IsoFlare is the largest implementation of Fyne Audio's point-source driver technology. The bass/midrange cone and the 75mm titanium dome compression tweeter share a common axis, radiating from the same point in space. The coherence this produces — consistent time alignment, stable imaging, and seamless integration between bass and treble — is not achievable with a conventional multi-driver layout, where even small physical separation between drivers introduces timing and phase anomalies that undermine low-level detail and spatial precision.
The FyneFlute surround reduces cone resonances at the driver termination, improving clarity through the upper bass and lower midrange. At 300mm, the IsoFlare moves a substantial volume of air; the FyneFlute surround and multi-fibre cone ensure that air movement is controlled and accurate rather than merely powerful.
BassTrax, Twin-Cavity Loading, and Aluminium Plinth
The F1-12s sits on a 20kg machined aluminium plinth that houses the BassTrax Tractrix diffuser. The downfiring port connects directly to this diffuser, which manages the expanding bass wavefront as it exits the cabinet. The Tractrix geometry reduces turbulence and port colouration and smooths the transition into the room, making the F1-12s less sensitive to floor reflections than a conventional rear-ported cabinet of comparable bass extension.
The twin-cavity loading arrangement within the cabinet gives the bass section additional acoustic control at the lowest frequencies, contributing to the 24Hz extension that makes the F1-12s a genuinely full-range loudspeaker in any room large enough to accommodate it. Rear panel potentiometer controls allow independent adjustment of HF energy (750Hz–26kHz) ±3dB and presence (2.5kHz–5.0kHz) ±3dB, enabling fine optimisation for room acoustics and personal preference without external equalisation.
Crossover and Connections
The crossover divides at 750Hz — a bi-wired passive low-loss design using 2nd order low-pass and 2nd order high-pass filters with Deep Cryogenic Treatment throughout. The connection panel supports bi-wiring.

Who Is It For?
The F1-12s is for the listener for whom nothing less than the finest will do — a large room, a reference-level system, and an insistence on point-source coherence at genuine full-range bass extension. The 96dB sensitivity is extraordinary for a speaker of this scale and means it will perform well with relatively modest amplification as well as with the most powerful amplifiers available. Those considering the F1-12s should also audition the F1-10s to understand the additional headroom and bass authority the 300mm driver provides over the 250mm.
Pairing the F1-12s with the Fyne Audio SuperTrax super tweeter can extend HF performance beyond 26kHz for those whose systems and ears demand it. For those approaching this level from the F700 series, the F704SP represents the most capable F700 expression before the step into the F1 range. The F1-8s is also worth considering for those whose rooms suit a slightly smaller cabinet.
Buying from Martins Hi-Fi
Martins Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968. Elizabeth Gould runs the business today, and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind. The F1-12s is available to discuss at our Norwich showroom — at this level, we strongly recommend a dedicated listening session, and Dave or Chris will organise this for you. We can advise on every aspect of system matching, room treatment, and amplification pairing.
Contact us at info@martinshifi.co.uk, call 01603 627010, or WhatsApp on 07554 687137. You can read more about how we work on our Why Martins Hi-Fi page. We are at 85–91 Ber Street, Norwich, NR1 3EY.
