Cyrus 80 AMP

The 80 AMP is Cyrus's most ambitious integrated amplifier to date — a single component that brings together a high-power Class A/B amplifier, the BluOS streaming platform, and a custom ESS Sabre DAC implementation in one chassis. It is designed for those who want the full Cyrus streaming experience without a separate streamer, and the power to drive demanding loudspeakers without compromise.

The 80 Series sits above the 40 Series in the Cyrus range. Where the 40 Amp is the natural centre of a modular system, the 80 AMP is a statement component — one that absorbs the streaming and DAC functions into the amplifier itself and does so without sacrificing the engineering rigour that defines the range.

150W Class A/B Power Amplifier

Power output is 150W per channel, Class A/B. That is a substantial reserve — enough to control most loudspeakers with authority and to handle dynamic peaks without compression. Class A/B operation means the output stage runs in Class A for low-level signals, where the ear is most sensitive to distortion, and switches to Class B for higher power demands, keeping heat generation and energy consumption manageable.

BluOS Streaming Platform

The 80 AMP is built around BluOS — an independent streaming platform with a development roadmap that does not depend on Cyrus's internal software team. BluOS supports a wide range of streaming services and handles locally stored music via UPnP. The controller app runs on iOS, Android, Kindle, Mac, and PC. Apple AirPlay 2, Roon Ready, and MQA decoding are all built in. Multi-room functionality is included natively — if other BluOS-enabled devices exist elsewhere, the 80 AMP integrates with them without additional configuration.

The built-in Wi-Fi antenna means the 80 AMP connects to a home network without a wired Ethernet run, though a wired connection remains the preferred option for critical listening.

ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M DAC

The DAC is built around the ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M 32-bit chipset. Lossless music playback is supported up to 24-bit/192kHz. The 80 AMP's DAC handles digital inputs from multiple sources — optical, coaxial, USB-B, and HDMI eARC — converting them all through the same high-quality conversion stage rather than through separate, lower-grade circuits for each input type.

HDMI eARC

The inclusion of HDMI eARC is a practical and significant feature. It allows audio from a television to be routed directly to the 80 AMP and played through the loudspeakers — no AV receiver, no soundbar, no compromise. For those who want a serious two-channel system that also handles television audio properly, eARC at this level is the correct solution.

Comprehensive Connectivity

The 80 AMP's input provision reflects its positioning as a complete system hub. Analogue inputs number four, covering the majority of source component requirements. An MM/MC phono input is included, making a separate phono preamplifier unnecessary for most vinyl setups. Balanced XLR inputs and outputs are provided for those with balanced sources or power amplifiers. Digital inputs cover two optical, two coaxial, one asynchronous USB-B, and one HDMI eARC. A headphone amplifier is built in. An analogue preamplifier output allows the 80 AMP to drive a separate power amplifier — the Cyrus Classic Power or a future 80 Series power amplifier — for those who want to bi-amplify or expand the system.

5" Full-Colour TFT Display

The 80 AMP features a full-colour 5-inch TFT display. At a practical level this provides clear source identification, volume readout, streaming metadata, and input status. It reflects the 80 Series design direction — a more substantial, more visible presence than the Classic range.

Who Is It For?

The 80 AMP is for the listener who wants a single, high-performance integrated amplifier that handles every source in a modern system — streaming, vinyl, television audio, and traditional analogue and digital sources — without a separate streamer or DAC. The 150W output means it will drive a wide range of loudspeakers with confidence, including those that the 40 Amp's 100W would begin to find demanding.

It is not the right choice for those who prefer to keep streaming and amplification in separate boxes — the Cyrus 40 Amp paired with the Cyrus 40 ST covers that architecture at a lower combined price. The 80 AMP is for those who want the most capable single-chassis solution Cyrus currently make.

For those who want to go further still, the analogue preamplifier output and balanced XLR connectivity mean the 80 AMP can anchor a larger system with a dedicated power amplifier alongside it.

Buying from Martins Hi-Fi

Martins Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968. Elizabeth Gould runs the business today, and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind.

The 80 AMP is available to hear in our Norwich showroom, partnered with appropriate loudspeakers and sources so you can judge it in a real system context — including a direct comparison with the 40 Series if that is a useful reference point.

When you get in touch, you'll be speaking with Dave, Chris and Tim — experienced specialists who can advise on this product and your whole system.
