Chord ChordMusic bi-wire speaker links

The Chord Company's own page for these runs to about forty words, and only one of them is a specification: Taylon®. No conductor gauge, no plug type, no length. That is either infuriating or clarifying, depending on your temperament, and it does at least concentrate the mind on the single thing the manufacturer thinks distinguishes the product from the pressed metal bar it replaces.

Taylon® is the insulation the whole ChordMusic range is built around, and The Chord Company's case for it is straightforward enough to check: it is a material upgrade to PTFE, and unlike PTFE it is phase-stable at room temperature. These links are hand-crafted around it and designed to complement the ChordMusic speaker cable, which tells you where they are meant to sit. They are not a general-purpose accessory. They are the last short bridge in a ChordMusic loudspeaker connection.

What The Chord Company do not publish, and why it matters before you order

There is no stated link length on Chord's page, and no stated termination. That is worth knowing in advance rather than discovering on delivery, because bi-wire terminal blocks are not standardised: the vertical spacing between the high and low pairs varies from one loudspeaker to another, some blocks take 4mm plugs happily and some are recessed in a way that suits spades better, and a few binding posts on very large loudspeakers will not accept a banana at all. Tell us the make and model of your loudspeakers and whether the terminals are set up for spades or 4mm plugs, and we will confirm what The Chord Company will supply before anything is ordered.

Chord publish no other construction detail for this product, so there is no Technical Specifications table below. Inventing one would be easy and dishonest.

Who Is It For?

Owners of a bi-wireable loudspeaker running a single ChordMusic — or near-ChordMusic — cable to it. That qualification is doing real work. These are the most expensive links The Chord Company make, and the argument for them only holds when the cable behind them and the loudspeaker in front of them are at a level where the bridge across the terminal block is genuinely a limiting factor. On a system where it is not, the money buys more somewhere else, and we would rather point you there.

ChordMusic is the top of the range and it is not a range we sell casually. A set of links at this level is worth a conversation about the system they are going into — the cable behind them, the amplifier driving it, and whether the loudspeaker's own internal wiring is going to make the point moot.
