Arcam SA45 Streaming Integrated Amplifier
The Arcam SA45 is the reference all-in-one streaming amplifier from the HDA range — 180 watts per channel of fifth-generation Class G amplification with 50 watts of Class A bias, a balanced XLR analogue input alongside three RCA pairs, an ESS Hyperstream IV DAC supporting DSD256 and 32-bit/384kHz PCM, Dirac Live room correction with the measurement microphone included, and an 8.8-inch colour display. This is the answer for a listener who wants everything in one chassis and is not willing to compromise to get there.
Where the SA45 Sits in the Arcam Range
The SA45 is the top of Arcam's integrated amplifier range. Below it, the SA35 delivers 120W per channel with the same ESS Hyperstream IV DAC and Dirac Live, but without XLR inputs, without Auracast, and with a 6.5-inch rather than 8.8-inch display. The SA35 is the right choice for most listeners; the SA45 is the answer when balanced inputs matter, when 180W is genuinely needed, or when you want the absolute top of the range.
The SA45's amplifier section is derived from the A49 — Arcam's reference stereo amplifier from the HDA range. The output stage topology, transformer design and power supply architecture share engineering DNA with a product benchmarked against standalone reference amplifiers. If you intend to run the SA45 as the front end of a larger system, the PA240 can be added to bi-amplify or drive particularly demanding speakers.
Fifth-Generation Class G Amplification
Fifth-generation Class G with 50 watts of Class A operation means the SA45 spends most of its working life in pure Class A — at normal listening levels in a domestic room, you are rarely outside those first 50 watts. The 0.002% THD at 80% power into 8Ω reflects careful output stage design. When dynamic peaks push beyond the Class A bias, the Class G rail switching is transparent. Into 4Ω the SA45 delivers 300 watts per channel, giving it authority over demanding loudspeakers that would expose the limits of a lesser design.
ESS Hyperstream IV DAC
The ESS Hyperstream IV DAC in balanced configuration processes streaming, digital inputs and the SA45's internal platform through a differential signal path. DSD256 support and 32-bit/384kHz PCM mean the SA45 handles any high-resolution format currently available from any streaming service or file library. The 110dB SNR from digital sources and 106dB from analogue reflect a genuinely clean signal chain throughout. If you prefer a separate streaming source, the Arcam Radia ST5 connects cleanly via coaxial or optical.
Dirac Live Room Correction
Dirac Live room correction is included with the measurement microphone — not sold separately. It measures your room acoustically across multiple listening positions and generates correction filters for the full frequency range. Two subwoofer outputs with independent Dirac Live correction allow sophisticated bass management with multiple subwoofers. In a typical UK living room, Dirac Live calibration addresses the bass modes and early reflections that determine most of what the system actually sounds like in practice.
Build Quality and Design
At 17kg and 432 × 390 × 140mm, the SA45 is a substantial physical presence. The isolated transformer chamber separates the linear toroidal power supply from the audio circuitry, reducing the magnetic field interference that is a primary source of noise in integrated designs. The 8.8-inch bonded colour display shows album art, streaming information and system settings clearly. Bluetooth 5.4 with Snapdragon Sound and Auracast supports both high-quality wireless streaming and broadcast to compatible receivers in other rooms.
Connectivity
Analogue inputs comprise three RCA pairs (including MM and MC phono) and one balanced XLR pair. Digital inputs: HDMI eARC, two coaxial RCA, two optical Toslink, all accepting up to 192kHz/24-bit. Streaming covers Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, AirPlay, Google Cast, Roon Ready, internet radio, podcasts, UPnP and USB media. Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, dual-band) and Ethernet are both fitted.

Who Is It For?
The SA45 suits the listener who wants the best integrated amplifier Arcam make, in a single chassis, with no compromises. It works particularly well for anyone with demanding speakers — large floorstanders, low-sensitivity designs, or anything that needs genuine power with Class A quality at normal listening levels. If balanced analogue inputs matter to your source chain, the SA45 is the only Arcam integrated that provides them. If 120W and the SA35's feature set meets your requirements, the SA35 is the sensible choice at a lower price.
