Arcam A50 Signature

The Arcam A50 Signature is a dual-mono, Class G integrated amplifier built to mark fifty years of Arcam amplification. Designed and engineered in Cambridge, it is the most technically ambitious integrated amplifier Arcam have produced — and structurally, it is built to a different standard than anything they have made before.

Dual-Mono Class G Architecture

Class G amplification is not new for Arcam, but the implementation in the A50 Signature is. Each channel operates as a fully independent module: separate transformer windings, dedicated power regulation, its own reservoir capacitors, a discrete Class G lifter stage, and a dedicated output-stage heatsink. Nothing is shared between channels.

The practical result is channel separation and a noise floor that most integrated amplifiers cannot approach. Power output is 150W per channel into 8Ω, rising to 220W per channel into 4Ω — figures that mean the A50 Signature will drive virtually any loudspeaker on the market without strain. Harmonic distortion at 80% power into 8Ω is measured at 0.002%. That is not a headline number; it is evidence of an amplifier stage that has been engineered carefully rather than specified optimistically.

ESS ES9039Q2M DAC

Digital conversion is handled by the ESS ES9039Q2M — a DAC chosen for signal integrity rather than marketing appeal. USB-C input accepts sample rates up to 384kHz at 32-bit depth. Other digital inputs handle up to 192kHz at 32-bit. HDMI eARC is included, which means the A50 Signature connects directly to a television and applies its audiophile-grade conversion to streaming services, broadcast audio, and home cinema sources alike.

Signal-to-noise ratio from digital sources measures 109dB — against 106dB from the analogue stage. That is a meaningful gap, and it reflects genuine engineering rather than coincidence.

Class A MM and MC Phono Stage

The phono stage is Class A throughout, accepting both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges. Input impedance is 47kΩ with 100pF capacitance. RIAA frequency response tracks to within ±1dB from 20Hz to 20kHz. This is a properly specified phono stage, not a convenience feature — it will do justice to a serious turntable and cartridge combination.

Bluetooth 5.4 — Snapdragon Sound and Auracast

Bluetooth 5.4 is built in, with codec support covering SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, aptX Lossless, LE Audio, and Auracast. Snapdragon Sound certification brings the highest current standard for wireless audio quality. Auracast allows the A50 Signature to broadcast audio simultaneously to multiple Bluetooth receivers — useful in practical terms, and indicative of how Arcam have thought about modern listening habits rather than retrofitting wireless as an afterthought.

Headphone Output

The headphone output delivers 2.5V RMS into 32Ω and 5V RMS into 300Ω, with a load range of 16Ω to 2kΩ. That covers the full range from efficient consumer headphones to demanding audiophile loads. Headphone listening on the A50 Signature draws from the same DAC and amplification stage as the loudspeaker output — there is no compromised secondary circuit.

Who Is It For?

The A50 Signature is for someone building a system around a single, capable component — one that handles turntable, television, USB audio, high-resolution streaming, and wireless listening without requiring separate boxes for each. It is not the amplifier for someone who wants to build upwards incrementally; it is the amplifier for someone who wants to arrive. At £2,499, it competes with separates that collectively cost considerably more and require more shelf space to do less.

It pairs naturally with a dedicated streamer such as the Arcam ST25 Network Streamer or the Arcam Radia ST5 for listeners who want to expand streaming capability beyond the built-in Bluetooth. If you are coming from an AV background, the Arcam AVR11 is worth considering alongside it for multichannel work.
