Fyne Audio F704 Floorstanding Speaker

The F704 is the top of the standard F700 range — a UK-built 2.5-way floorstander built around the largest IsoFlare driver in the F700 series, a 300mm multi-fibre bass/midrange cone paired with a 75mm titanium dome compression tweeter. Sensitivity is 96dB and the frequency response extends from 24Hz to 26kHz. At £13,999.98 per pair, the F704 is the point in the F700 range where amplifier requirements become almost entirely a matter of preference: 20 watts is enough to drive it hard, and 300W gives it near-limitless headroom.

The 300mm IsoFlare driver represents the largest point-source driver in the F700 range. The combination of that cone area, the 75mm titanium tweeter, and 96dB sensitivity makes the F704 a fundamentally different proposition from the F702 — and a direct expression of the engineering capability that Fyne Audio have developed through the F1 flagship series.

The F700 Range

The F700 series is Fyne Audio's premium UK-built offering, incorporating trickle-down technology from the F1 flagship series. Every speaker is designed and hand-built at Fyne's Scottish factory. The F704 is the culmination of the standard F700 range, sitting above the F703 and below the F704SP, which applies Special Production treatment — F1-derived drivers, premium crossover components, and Deep Cryogenic Treatment — to the same cabinet architecture.

IsoFlare Driver Technology

The IsoFlare driver combines bass/midrange cone and high-frequency compression tweeter on a shared axis — the tweeter fires from the centre of the bass/midrange driver — so both drivers radiate from exactly the same point in space. Point-source behaviour means the time relationship between bass, mid, and treble is consistent across the full listening area, and off-axis coherence is substantially better than any physically separated driver arrangement.

In the F704, the IsoFlare uses a 300mm multi-fibre bass/midrange cone paired with a 75mm titanium dome compression tweeter. The 300mm cone is a significant mass of moving air — combined with 96dB sensitivity, this is a speaker that responds to amplifier quality before it responds to amplifier power. The dedicated bass driver is a further 300mm multi-fibre unit, forming the 2.5-way configuration that extends bass output to 24Hz.

BassTrax and Twin-Cavity Loading

The downfiring port connects to a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser built into the speaker's base. The Tractrix profile maintains a consistent relationship at the expanding wavefront as bass energy leaves the port, reducing reflections and smoothing the port-to-room transition. Twin-cavity loading within the cabinet gives the bass section the additional acoustic control needed to achieve 24Hz extension from a sealed-in enclosure.

Crossover and Connections

The crossover divides at 200Hz and 900Hz. It is a bi-wired passive low-loss design with Cryo-Lite treatment applied to the crossover components.

The connection panel includes a fifth terminal to earth the driver chassis, eliminating RF interference from the amplifier or cables.

Who Is It For?

The F704 suits a listener who wants the full capability of the F700 range in a standard production loudspeaker — the largest driver, the deepest extension, and the highest sensitivity before entering Special Production territory. At 96dB, it is extraordinarily easy to drive by any measure: low-powered valve amplification will animate it fully, and high-powered solid state will give it room-filling dynamics that few loudspeakers at this price can match.

The physical scale is considerable — 1339mm tall and 67.7kg each — so room size and placement warrant careful thought. The reward is a speaker that never sounds stretched at volume, with bass authority that 24Hz extension alone does not fully convey.

Those wanting the full Special Production treatment — F1-derived drivers, Deep Cryogenic Treatment, premium crossover components — should look at the F704SP. The F703 is the natural comparison for those uncertain whether the step from 250mm to 300mm IsoFlare is worth pursuing. See the full Fyne Audio range we stock.

Buying from Martin's Hi-Fi

Martin's Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968. Elizabeth Gould runs the business today, and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind. The F704 is available to hear in our Norwich showroom — call ahead and we will have it set up for you. Dave and Chris can advise on amplifier matching, room requirements, and the comparison between the F704 and the F704SP for your system.
