Linn LP12 Turntables

The Linn LP12: Precision Vinyl Replay Since 1972

There are turntables, and then there is the Linn LP12. First introduced in 1972, it remains in continuous production — not out of nostalgia, but because the fundamental design is correct. The LP12 is a precision-engineered subchassis turntable built around a single, obsessive principle: isolate the stylus from everything that is not music.

The Upgrade Path

What makes the LP12 genuinely unusual is its upgrade path. Most turntables are fixed at the point of purchase. The LP12 is not. The bearing, the motor, the tonearm, the cartridge, the power supply — each can be upgraded independently as your system and ambitions evolve. We stock the full range, from the Linn LP12 Majik Turntable — the entry point into the platform — through to the Linn Klimax LP12 Turntable, which represents Linn's current statement in vinyl replay.

Tonearms and Cartridges

The LP12 supports Linn's own tonearms and cartridges, including the Linn Ekos SE Tonearm and the Linn Krane Tonearm, and cartridges up to the Linn Ekstatik Moving Coil Cartridge. Each combination has been voiced and tested by Linn to work together — there is no guesswork involved.

Upgrades and the Karousel Bearing

An existing LP12 can be transformed rather than replaced. The Linn Karousel Bearing Kit is one of the most significant single upgrades available to LP12 owners — a precision re-engineering of the main bearing that Linn introduced after decades of refinement. It is the kind of upgrade that makes a familiar record sound like a different pressing.

Setup and Expertise at Martins Hi-Fi

We have been demonstrating and setting up LP12s at our Norwich showroom for decades. A turntable of this precision rewards a correct setup, and that is something we take seriously. Whether you are buying your first LP12, upgrading an existing one, or exploring what a Karousel bearing or a new cartridge would do for your system, Dave and Chris are here to advise.
