Bryston's Three New Components: Bi-200, 7B Cubed and BP-19
There is a moment in any serious system build when you stop looking at individual components and start thinking about the whole. Bryston's latest three products — the Bi-200 Integrated Amplifier, the 7B Cubed Monoblock, and the BP-19 Preamplifier — each answer a different version of that question, and each does so with the kind of engineering rigour that has made the Canadian manufacturer a fixture in both professional studios and dedicated listening rooms.
The Bi-200 Integrated Amplifier
The Bi-200 is the first integrated amplifier Bryston has built with a fully balanced preamplifier section — a meaningful distinction, not a marketing one. Balanced circuitry eliminates common-mode noise by carrying the signal on two conductors rather than one, and the Bi-200 takes that approach throughout, from input to output.
At the heart of the power stage sits a patented input circuit using an array of twelve active devices. The effect of that array is to push total harmonic distortion below 0.001% — lower than any amplifier Bryston has previously made. The dual-mono architecture ensures that each channel operates independently, drawing on its own power supply and keeping crosstalk between channels effectively non-existent.
The output is 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 300 watts into 4 ohms — enough to drive speakers that most integrated amplifiers would find uncomfortable. If you have been running separates and wondering whether an integrated could match them, the Bi-200 is probably the most serious answer to that question currently available.
The 7B Cubed Monoblock
For those who have already decided that separates are the answer, the 7B Cubed is Bryston's current monoblock power amplifier, and it makes no attempt at understatement. Six hundred watts into 8 ohms, rising to 900 watts into 4 ohms, built around a specially wound transformer that Bryston describe as substantially more efficient than standard designs — with twice the power held in reserve for demanding loads.
The 7B Cubed also incorporates Bryston's patented Salomie circuit, a circuit topology designed to improve the amplifier's behaviour under real-world conditions rather than test-bench ones.
For speakers that need serious current — the KEF Blade Two Meta being one example, or the Spendor Classic 200 — the 7B Cubed has the headroom to let them work as intended.
The BP-19 Analog Preamplifier
The BP-19 is where Bryston's engineering philosophy is perhaps most clearly stated. A preamplifier that adds nothing to the signal is harder to build than one that flatters it, and the BP-19 takes the former approach with total harmonic distortion measured at or below 0.0006% — a figure that is not incidental but the product of fully balanced design from input to output and the kind of common-mode rejection that matters when a preamplifier sits at the centre of a resolving system.
Bryston developed the BP-19 drawing on research and design innovations from their multi-award-winning BR-20 preamplifier, bringing that level of thinking to a broader range of systems. Paired with the 7B Cubed — or as the preamplifier section of a system built around the Fyne Audio Classic Gold XV SP — the BP-19 gives you a front end that will not be the weak link.
