Vitus SCD-025 Mk.II CD Player and DAC
The SCD-025 Mk.II is Vitus Audio's Signature Series CD player and DAC — a single-chassis digital source whose design brief was precise and uncompromising: produce analogue-quality sound from a digital signal. Vitus used their own Masterpiece MP-P201 phono stage as the sonic reference during development. The result is a machine that functions as a complete digital hub, accepting USB, AES/EBU, and S/PDIF alongside the CD transport.
The CDPro 8 Transport
Vitus selected the SUOS CDPro 8 drive for its robust construction and reliable performance, then went further — mounting it in a double suspension system to isolate the mechanism from external vibration and reduce reliance on internal error correction. Reading a disc more consistently means fewer corrections; fewer corrections means closer contact with the original data.
Sample Rate Conversion and the DAC Stage
The Engineered Q8 sample rate converter brings incoming digital to 384kHz, minimising jitter in the process. Two AD1955 DAC chips run in mono mode — one per channel — a configuration that keeps left and right signal paths entirely separate and extracts the maximum resolution from each.
The Analogue Output Stage
The analogue stage is drawn directly from Vitus Audio's amplifier designs — not an afterthought, but a deliberate transplant of the same circuit philosophy that defines their separate amplification. The power supply is divided into four discrete sections: one for the drive, one for the digital stage, and two independent supplies for the left and right analogue channels. This separation is foundational to lowering the noise floor and achieving the quiet, composed backgrounds Vitus are known for.
Connectivity
The SCD-025 Mk.II accepts USB (up to 384kHz and DSD128), AES/EBU via XLR, and S/PDIF via RCA on the input side. Digital audio outputs cover AES/EBU (XLR) and S/PDIF (RCA) at up to 192kHz/24-bit. Analogue outputs are balanced XLR and single-ended RCA, both at 80Ω impedance.
