There is a certain kind of home cinema installation where compromising on the processor simply is not an option. The room has been acoustically treated. The screen is large. The amplification is serious. At that point, the processor is not just a component — it is the foundation on which everything else depends.

The Trinnov Altitude CI-8 was built for exactly that situation.

What Is the Altitude CI-8?

The Altitude CI-8 is a 2RU network AV processor designed for custom installation in premium home cinema and media room projects. It processes 7.1 channels natively, with a software-based upgrade path to 32 channels in 2-channel increments — no hardware swap required.

It decodes every major immersive audio format: Dolby Atmos, DTS:X Pro, Auro-3D, and IMAX Enhanced are all handled natively. Upmixers for Dolby Surround, DTS Neural:X, and Auro-Matic are included, so even non-native content benefits from spatial processing.

What sets the CI-8 apart from conventional AV processors is its architecture. This is not a traditional processor with IP connectivity bolted on. It was engineered from the ground up as an Audio over IP-native platform, with hardware Dante support and software Ravenna/AES67 running simultaneously. For installers working with distributed audio, DCI servers, or complex network topologies, this changes what is possible.

Trinnov Room Correction: What It Actually Does

Trinnov's reputation rests on its Optimizer technology, and the CI-8 carries the full suite. The Optimizer uses a dedicated 3D measurement microphone — the compensation file for which now uploads automatically through the calibration wizard — to analyse your room in three dimensions. It then corrects each speaker's phase, level, delay, and equalisation individually, not as a group. The result is a soundstage that reflects the recording, not the room.

WaveForming technology addresses one of the most stubborn problems in home cinema: bass. By synchronising multiple subwoofers, it eliminates standing waves and room modes, producing bass that is tight, consistent, and powerful throughout the listening space rather than only at one seat.

Remapping completes the picture. When room constraints prevent ideal speaker placement — and they often do — Remapping corrects the spatial discrepancies mathematically, so the processor delivers accurate imaging regardless of what the architecture forced upon the installer.

If you want to understand how this compares across the Altitude range, the Trinnov Altitude16 scales to 16 channels and the Trinnov Altitude32 to 32 — both using the same Optimizer platform.

Built for Integration

The CI-8 carries native control drivers for Crestron, Control4, Savant, RTI, AMX, and AVA. Remote access through my.trinnov.audio allows installers to monitor, configure, and update systems without being on site — a practical benefit for both commissioning and ongoing service.

Three independently configurable Gigabit Ethernet ports, two with SFP cages for fibre or copper, give installers the flexibility to segregate control, audio, and service networks — or run redundant AoIP signal paths.

HDMI 2.1 connectivity supports 8K30 and 4K120 pass-through, with HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG, VRR, and ALLM all accounted for.

For projects requiring amplification, the CI-8 pairs naturally with Trinnov's own power amplifiers. The Trinnov Amplitude8 and Trinnov Amplitude8m are worth considering alongside it.

Who Should Specify the Altitude CI-8?

The CI-8 is the entry point into the Altitude CI platform — which means it carries Trinnov's full processing capability at a channel count appropriate for most premium residential projects. It suits living room systems where concealment matters as much as performance, dedicated media rooms where the integrator needs network flexibility, and any project where the client expects the processor to be invisible in operation but uncompromising in result.

At £8,818, it is a serious investment. But for projects at this level, the processor is rarely the place to economise.

Hear It at Martins Hi-Fi

Martin's Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968. Elizabeth Gould runs the business today, and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind. Dave and Chris can walk you through the Altitude CI platform and help you specify the right configuration for your project — whether that is a straightforward 7.1 installation or a more complex networked cinema.
