REL HT/1205 MKII Subwoofer – The Cannon – Premium 12" Home Theatre Bass
The REL HT/1205 MKII – known within REL's ranks as The Cannon – represents a significant step forward in affordable home theatre subwoofer performance. Built around an all-new 12" CarbonGlas™ driver and a 500W Class D amplifier, it plays 50% louder than its predecessor whilst delivering greater precision and subtlety in equal measure. The cabinet is a genuinely beautiful piece of engineering: lower and sleeker than before, with proportions drawn from REL's flagship Reference models, a hand-polished five-coat piano black lacquer top panel, and a line-grained composite body that looks considerably more expensive than its price point would suggest. For home theatre enthusiasts seeking extraordinary dynamics, deep bass extension into the low 20Hz range, and a subwoofer that looks as purposeful as it performs, the HT/1205 MKII is a compelling proposition.

Key Features
- All-New 12" CarbonGlas™ Driver – Lightweight, stiff, and pistonic, combining glass fibre primary cone with true carbon fibre centre cap for fast, accurate bass reproduction
- 500W Class D Amplifier – Runs cool whilst delivering extraordinary dynamic headroom, producing output levels 50% greater than the previous generation
- Specially Adapted Home Theatre Input Filters – Engineered to produce exceptionally flat bass response deep into the low 20Hz range for genuine cinematic impact
- Hand-Polished Piano Black Lacquer Top Panel – Five coats of lacquer with a floating REL logo, set above a line-grained composite cabinet body with Reference-inspired proportions
- REL HT/3D™ Compatible – Can be combined with REL Serie T/x or Serie S subwoofers in fully immersive multi-subwoofer home theatre configurations
Technology & Design
The HT/1205 MKII's CarbonGlas™ driver has been comprehensively re-engineered for this generation. Larger, more powerful magnets generate greater energy, whilst an upgraded suspension system maintains precise control over the driver's movement all the way to the limits of both amplifier and driver output. The result is a cone that moves with speed and accuracy even under extreme dynamic demand – remaining fast and liquid where lesser subwoofers become strained and compressed. The 500W Class D amplifier is equally new, running cool under sustained load whilst delivering the current necessary for the kind of explosive transient performance that home theatre demands. Internally, REL's specially developed home theatre input filters ensure that this power translates into exceptionally flat, extended bass response, reaching deep into the 20Hz range without the usual roll-off that compromises the sense of scale in large-scale film soundtracks.
Superior Sound Experience
The Cannon earns its nickname. In a home theatre setting, the HT/1205 MKII produces bass on a scale that transforms the experience of watching film: explosions carry genuine physical weight, low-frequency effects tracks reveal depth and texture that simply cannot be reproduced by smaller systems, and the overall sense of cinematic immersion is dramatically enhanced. Yet REL's engineering philosophy ensures that sheer output is never achieved at the expense of quality – the HT/1205 MKII remains articulate and controlled even at extreme listening levels, resolving fine bass detail with a liquidity that speaks to the quality of both its driver and amplifier design. This is a subwoofer built equally for the quieter moments in a soundtrack as for the loudest.
Heritage & Craftsmanship
REL Acoustics has spent decades establishing itself as the benchmark against which home theatre and hi-fi subwoofers are judged. The Serie HT range reflects REL's specific response to the demands of pure home theatre use – prioritising dynamic range, output capability, and deep bass extension above all else, without the electronic gimmickry that inflates specifications on paper whilst undermining real-world performance. The HT/1205 MKII's cabinet design borrows directly from REL's Reference series, with proportions and internal bracing informed by years of research into how enclosure geometry affects bass speed and depth. The result is a subwoofer that looks and performs like a product costing considerably more, and one that REL believes is destined to become a modern classic in its category.
