Rega System One
The Rega System One is a complete vinyl hi-fi system — Rega's answer to the question of how to get a properly engineered analogue system into a home without having to source, match, and set up each component individually. It combines the Planar 1 turntable, the io integrated amplifier, and a pair of Kyte loudspeakers with all necessary cables included. Everything is handmade in England at Rega's Southend-on-Sea facility, factory-matched, and designed to work together from the moment it is set up.
The System One is not a budget compromise dressed up as a system — it is an engineered package. The Planar 1 is a proper Rega turntable with a hand-assembled RB110 tonearm and the Carbon moving magnet cartridge factory-fitted and aligned. The io is a genuine integrated amplifier with a built-in MM phono stage, two line-level inputs, and 30 watts per channel into 8 ohms. The Kytes are Rega's own loudspeaker design, built in-house. The cables are Rega's own 56-strand multi-strand copper. Nothing is generic; everything is the same product sold separately under the Rega name.
What the System One Contains
Rega Planar 1 turntable — hand-assembled RB110 tonearm, Carbon moving magnet cartridge factory-fitted and correctly aligned, 24V low-noise synchronous motor. The Planar 1 is Rega's entry turntable, but it is built to the same design philosophy as every deck in the range: rigid, low-mass, and mechanically quiet. The Carbon cartridge's user-replaceable stylus means the cartridge can be maintained at home without a service visit when the time comes.
Rega io integrated amplifier — 30 watts per channel into 8 ohms, built-in MM phono stage for the Planar 1, two additional line-level inputs for other sources, a front-panel headphone socket, and a mini remote handset. The io is Rega's entry amplifier, but it is not a stripped-down product: the power supply and output stage are designed in-house, and the MM phono stage is voiced to work well with the Carbon cartridge in the Planar 1.
Rega Kyte loudspeakers — a 2-way bass-reflex design, rear-ported, with a phenolic resin cabinet and ceramic bracing. 89dB sensitivity, 80 watts power handling. The Kyte was engineered by Rega specifically as a loudspeaker to partner their electronics and sources, not specced to a price point by a third-party contractor.
Cables — 2 × 3-metre Rega multi-strand copper speaker cables, 56 strands per core, included in the box. Everything needed to connect the system is supplied.
Sound and Performance
The System One's primary virtue is coherence. Three components designed by the same engineering team, built in the same building, and chosen to work together as a system produce a result that separately sourced components at the same price often cannot match. The io's phono stage is calibrated for the Carbon's output; the Kytes are voiced to the tonal balance of Rega's amplifier range. The result is a system that sounds complete and musical from the start — not a set of compromises cobbled together, but a single design statement.
The Planar 1 and RB110 arm will track records reliably and quietly. The io's 30 watts is adequate to drive the Kytes in a normally proportioned room — the Kytes' 89dB sensitivity means they do not require large amounts of power to reach comfortable listening levels. The Kytes' ceramic-braced cabinet and rear-ported design extract what the io provides and present it with the directness and clarity that characterises Rega's loudspeaker thinking.
This is not a system that will resolve the last word in detail at reference level — the Carbon cartridge and the RB110 have a ceiling, and so does 30 watts into a compact loudspeaker. Within those limits, it is honest, musical, and considerably more coherent than assembled separates from multiple manufacturers at the same price point.
Build Quality and Design
All three components are handmade in England at Rega's Southend-on-Sea facility. The Planar 1, io, and Kyte are the same products sold individually — buying the System One is buying three Rega products in a single transaction, not a cut-down version of those products. Lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects applies to all three components.
The System One is sold as a complete package. The components are not available separately at System One pricing.
Connectivity and System Matching
The Planar 1 connects directly to the io's MM phono input — no additional phono stage is required. The io's two line-level inputs accommodate further sources: a CD player, a DAC, or a streaming device. The front-panel headphone socket handles private listening without an additional headphone amplifier.
The Kytes connect to the io's speaker terminals using the supplied Rega speaker cable. No additional interconnects are required beyond those connecting the Planar 1 to the io's phono input, which is typically a standard RCA phono lead.
For those who later want to upgrade individual elements, every component in the System One is available separately. The Planar 1 can be upgraded with a better cartridge from the Nd MM range — the Nd3 or Nd5 are the natural steps up. The io can be supplemented with a standalone phono stage if the built-in stage's ceiling is reached. The upgrade path is straightforward because the components are standard Rega products.

Who Is It For?
The System One is for the listener who wants a properly engineered Rega vinyl system without having to specify, source, and set up individual components separately. It suits a first hi-fi purchase, a dedicated second system, or anyone who wants the Rega entry-level package in a single transaction. The components are genuine Rega products — the same Planar 1, io, and Kyte sold individually — and the system benefits from having been designed together rather than assembled from parts.
Those who already have a partial system, who want to start at a higher level, or who want to build from individual components should talk to Dave or Chris to put together the right combination.
Buying from Martin's Hi-Fi
Martin's Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968, and the Rega range has been part of what we do for years. We are still family-run — Elizabeth Gould runs the business today — and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind.
The System One is currently sold out. Contact Dave or Chris to discuss availability and to get on the list for the next delivery. Reach them at dave@martinshifi.co.uk, chris@martinshifi.co.uk, info@martinshifi.co.uk, call on 01603 627010, or WhatsApp Dave or Chris directly on 07554 687137. You can read more about who we are and how we work on our Why Martin's page. We are at 85–91 Ber Street, Norwich, NR1 3EY, open six days a week.
