Quad Elegan 1

Quad Elegan 1

The Quad Elegan 1 is a two-way standmount loudspeaker designed to deliver genuine audiophile performance within a compact, beautifully proportioned enclosure. It sits as the entry point to Quad's Elegan Series — a range that carries the same priorities of balance, timing and long-term listenability that have defined Quad loudspeakers for decades. At this size and price, the Elegan 1 makes a compelling case that scale is not a prerequisite for a complete and satisfying sound.

165mm Woven Kevlar Driver

At the heart of the Elegan 1 is a precision-engineered 165mm woven Kevlar bass/midrange driver. The choice of Kevlar is deliberate: it combines low mass with increased rigidity and controlled self-damping, enabling accurate transient response and low coloration across the critical midrange band. Voices retain texture and warmth; instruments occupy clearly defined positions within the stereo image. The bass extension reaches down to 44Hz — a figure that demands attention from a cabinet of this scale.

25mm Soft Dome Tweeter and Waveguide

High frequencies are handled by a 25mm fabric dome tweeter, mounted within a precision waveguide that controls dispersion across a wide listening area. The effect is consistent tonal balance whether you are seated centrally or moving around the room — the Elegan 1 does not demand a narrow sweet spot. Integration between the two drivers is handled by a crossover set at 2.9kHz, producing a presentation that feels coherent and natural throughout the frequency range.

Cabinet Construction and Airflow™ Bass Reflex

The Elegan 1 cabinet is constructed from high-density MDF with extensive internal bracing to suppress resonance. By reducing cabinet vibration, more of the amplifier's energy is directed at reproducing the recording rather than exciting the enclosure. At the rear, Quad's Airflow™ bass reflex system employs a precision-profiled port to minimise turbulence and maintain clean, articulate low-frequency performance. The result is bass that is controlled and surprisingly deep for a loudspeaker of this physical size.

Design and Finish

The Elegan 1 is available in Matte Black or real Walnut veneer — finishes that allow the loudspeaker to integrate into contemporary and traditional interiors without demanding attention. The proportions are clean and restrained, consistent with Quad's broader design language. Both finishes pair naturally with Quad's current electronics range.

Technical Specifications

Who Is It For?

The Elegan 1 suits anyone who needs a compact loudspeaker without sacrificing sonic integrity — whether that is a smaller dedicated listening room, a second system, or a main system in a space where a floorstander is impractical. It is sensitive enough to work with lower-powered amplifiers (30W upwards) and resolving enough to reward a well-matched source and amplifier. If you are building a system around Quad electronics, the Elegan 1 is the natural starting point in the range.
