PMC IB2 SE

The PMC IB2 SE is a statement floorstanding loudspeaker from PMC's SE Passive Series — a design that draws on the same acoustic engineering principles that underpin PMC's reference professional monitors, refined and tuned for the most demanding domestic listening environments. At this level, the IB2 SE does not ask you to compromise between scale, control and resolution. It offers all three, simultaneously, at any volume.

ATL™ — Advanced Transmission Line

The engineering foundation of the IB2 SE is PMC's ATL™ (Advanced Transmission Line) bass-loading system. Where a conventional ported or sealed enclosure dissipates the energy generated behind the bass driver as heat or uncontrolled turbulence, ATL™ puts that energy to work. A precisely calculated internal pathway — 2.4 metres in length — absorbs unwanted mid-frequency energy and releases only the deepest bass frequencies through a carefully tuned front vent. The result is bass that reaches 25Hz with authority and definition that sealed and reflex designs of comparable cabinet volume simply cannot replicate. There is no overhang, no one-note boom — only bass that is fast, tuneful and completely integrated with the rest of the frequency range.

Drive Units

The IB2 SE's low-frequency driver is a PMC 10" (250mm) unit with a Carbon Fibre and Nomex™ piston — a composite construction that delivers the rigidity of carbon fibre with the damping properties of Nomex, controlling breakup modes that conventional paper or polymer cones cannot suppress at the highest playback levels. The result is a bass unit that remains composed when lesser designs begin to strain, preserving the low-level detail and dynamic gradations that distinguish a truly high-resolution loudspeaker from one that merely plays loudly.

Sensitivity, Power Handling and Impedance

With a sensitivity of 89dB at 1W/1m and a nominal impedance of 4 Ohms, the IB2 SE is a loudspeaker that rewards powerful, high-current amplification — it will accept up to 500W and benefits from every watt of headroom that a serious amplifier can provide. The recommended power range of 15–500W reflects genuine versatility, but this is a speaker that reveals more of itself as the quality and authority of partnering electronics increases.
