Ortofon Quintet Black S
The Quintet Black S is the best of everything in Ortofon's Quintet moving coil series and is true to the groove with resolution and accurate insight into each recording. It will give the closest approach within the Quintet Series to Ortofon's true accuracy in sound.
Shibata Stylus and Sapphire Cantilever
The Quintet Black S is graced with a Shibata stylus on a Sapphire cantilever. Sapphire is one of the best cantilever options, providing an excellent mechanical pulse transfer from the stylus to the coil system. The Quintet Black S produces detailed and pure reproduction throughout the spectrum, volume and soundstage.
The coils are wound from Aucurum wire and the cartridge body is constructed from ABS/Alu. The body's straight lines and right-angle geometry, shared across the Quintet series, make cartridge alignment straightforward with most standard headshells and tonearms.

Who Is It For?
The Quintet Black S suits the serious analogue listener who wants the performance ceiling of the Quintet series without stepping into the higher price bracket of the Cadenza range. Its practical body design and broad load compatibility make it less demanding to integrate than many cartridges at this level, but it does require a phono stage with proper low-output MC gain. Those considering the step further up should look at the Ortofon Cadenza Bronze or the Ortofon Cadenza Black. Those stepping up from within the Quintet range — from the Ortofon Quintet Bronze or Ortofon Quintet Blue MC — will find the Black S a clear and purposeful advance.
