Ortofon MC Vertex Moving Coil Cartridge
The Ortofon MC Vertex is a reference moving coil cartridge combining a precision line contact diamond, solid diamond cantilever and titanium body for transparent, high-resolution vinyl playback with stable tracking and low resonance. It represents the unified design philosophy at the heart of Ortofon's most ambitious engineering — every material, every geometry, every mechanical decision made in service of accurate groove tracing and natural tonal balance.
Unified Design Approach
The MC Vertex is designed as an integrated moving coil cartridge with a unified structure, combining materials, geometry and mechanical control for accurate groove tracing, stable signal generation, clean energy transfer and natural tonal balance. Nothing in the MC Vertex exists in isolation — each element is resolved as part of a complete mechanical and electrical system.
Diamond and Cantilever
The MC Vertex uses an advanced line contact stylus profile with a 4 µm scanning radius and 110 µm contact radius for precise groove contact, stable tracking and excellent detail retrieval. The solid diamond cantilever provides a rigid, low-mass structure for fast, accurate energy transfer — a material chosen not for its prestige but for its mechanical properties, delivering a level of rigidity and lightness that no conventional cantilever material can match.
Titanium Body and Magnetic System
The titanium housing and internal core are manufactured using Selective Laser Melting (SLM) — a precision additive process that allows exact control of geometry, mass and damping in three dimensions. A non-magnetic armature and high-purity silver coils support low moving mass, clean signal generation and fast transient response, ensuring the MC Vertex retrieves everything the groove contains without editorialising.
Wide Range Damping
Ortofon's Wide Range Damping system uses a platinum disc between proprietary rubber dampers to control resonance across the audible range. The result is transparent, high-resolution sound, precise imaging, stable playback and natural tonal balance — a cartridge that does not impose its own character on the music, but simply gets out of the way.

Who Is It For?
The MC Vertex is a reference cartridge for the serious vinyl enthusiast whose system is already resolving enough to reveal what a cartridge of this calibre can do. It demands a tonearm and phono stage of matching quality — and rewards that investment with a level of retrieval and musical truth that sets a new standard for what vinyl playback can achieve.
Buying from Martins Hi-Fi
Martins Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968. Elizabeth Gould runs the business today, and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind. The MC Vertex can be heard in our Norwich showroom — speak to Chris or Tim, who can advise on tonearm matching, phono stage pairing and the full context of a system built around a cartridge of this ambition.
