KEF Reference 2C Meta
The KEF Reference 2C Meta is a centre channel loudspeaker designed as the acoustic and aesthetic partner for the Reference Series floorstanding and stand-mount speakers. It uses the same driver technologies and cabinet philosophy as the rest of the Reference range, ensuring that dialogue, vocals, and central image information are reproduced to the same standard as the front left and right speakers. At £5,500, it is the correct centre channel for a Reference Series home cinema system.
Uni-Q Driver Array with MAT
The Reference 2C Meta is built around KEF's 12th-generation Uni-Q driver array, placing a 25mm aluminium dome tweeter at the acoustic centre of a 125mm midrange cone. This concentric arrangement is particularly valuable in a centre channel application — because the tweeter and midrange radiate from the same point in space, the speaker maintains consistent tonal balance across a wide horizontal listening angle. In a cinema setup where listeners are spread across a sofa or multiple seats, this matters more than in a stereo context. The tweeter uses KEF's Metamaterial Absorption Technology — MAT — a maze-like structure of individually tuned channels fitted to the rear of the tweeter. It eliminates the back-wave that would otherwise colour the sound, reducing distortion and improving the clarity of dialogue and vocals.
Bass Drivers
Flanking the Uni-Q array, the Reference 2C Meta uses two 165mm aluminium bass drivers in a reflex-loaded enclosure. These extend the low-frequency response and give the centre channel the dynamic headroom to handle film soundtracks without compression. The bass drivers use the same ribbed aluminium cone construction as the rest of the Reference range.
Cabinet Construction
The Reference 2C Meta cabinet uses constrained-layer damping with a machined aluminium front baffle — the same approach used throughout the Reference Series. The cabinet is available in the same finishes as the Reference floorstanding speakers, ensuring visual consistency across a full Reference system.

Who Is It For?
The Reference 2C Meta is for anyone building a home cinema system around the KEF Reference 3 Meta or Reference 5 Meta as front left and right speakers. Using a mismatched centre channel in a system of this calibre is a false economy — the Reference 2C Meta ensures the centre image matches the front stage in tonal character, driver technology, and dynamic capability. For additional low-frequency support, it works alongside the KEF KC62 Subwoofer or KEF KC92 Subwoofer.
