KEF R6 Meta Centre Channel Speaker
The KEF R6 Meta is the flagship centre channel loudspeaker of KEF's R Series — a three-way closed-box design built to the same specification as the range-topping R11 Meta floorstander, and the correct centre channel choice for any home cinema system where tonal matching, dialogue precision, and dynamic capability are non-negotiable. Built around the 12th generation Uni-Q® driver array with Metamaterial Absorption Technology and two 165 mm hybrid aluminium bass drivers — the same bass driver used in the R11 Meta — the R6 Meta delivers a centre channel performance of extraordinary authority and refinement. It can be deployed horizontally as a conventional centre channel, or vertically in an LCR configuration alongside R11 Meta floorstanders, for a front stage of complete tonal consistency and imaging precision.
12th Generation Uni-Q® with MAT™
At the heart of the R6 Meta sits KEF's 12th generation Uni-Q® driver array — a 25 mm vented aluminium dome tweeter mounted at the acoustic centre of a 125 mm aluminium cone midrange unit, forming the coincident point-source arrangement that defines KEF's loudspeaker philosophy. In a centre channel loudspeaker, Single Apparent Source geometry carries particular acoustic significance. Dialogue, sound effects, and centre-stage musical information must remain anchored precisely to the screen, and any dispersion irregularity or tonal coloration in the centre channel will immediately undermine the coherence of the complete front stage. The Uni-Q® array's wide, even dispersion ensures that the R6 Meta delivers consistent tonal balance and imaging quality across the full width of the listening area — not merely for the listener occupying the optimal seat.
The 12th generation array incorporates KEF's Metamaterial Absorption Technology — MAT™. Developed in collaboration with the Acoustic Metamaterials Group, MAT™ is a precisely engineered maze-like structure mounted directly behind the tweeter dome. Each channel within the structure is individually tuned to absorb a specific frequency of unwanted rearward tweeter radiation — and together, the channels act as an acoustic black hole, absorbing 99% of the energy that would otherwise re-enter the signal path as distortion and coloration. The result is a treble performance of extraordinary purity and naturalness — free of the veiling and high-frequency coloration that limits conventional tweeter designs — and a dialogue clarity and low-level resolution that was previously unsurpassed in any R Series centre channel at any price.
The refined tweeter gap damper reduces resonance within the tweeter assembly throughout the operating range. The Flexible Decoupling Chassis isolates the complete Uni-Q® from the mechanical energy of the bass drivers and the cabinet structure, keeping the point-source array in the quietest possible acoustic environment. The enhanced crossover design manages the transition between bass, midrange, and treble at 500 Hz and 2.4 kHz with fine-tuned precision.
Dual 165 mm Hybrid Aluminium Bass Drivers
The R6 Meta's low-frequency performance is delivered by two 165 mm hybrid aluminium cone bass drivers — the same driver used in the R11 Meta floorstander, a specification that reflects the R6 Meta's position as the senior centre channel in the R Series range. The closed-box alignment — rather than the bass reflex design used in the R11 Meta — delivers a bass character that is tighter and more precisely controlled than a ported equivalent, with a lower group delay and a cleaner, faster transient response that serves dialogue reproduction and percussive musical content particularly well. Maximum output is 111 dB peak SPL, and the R6 Meta's nominal impedance of 4 Ω and sensitivity of 88 dB make it a practical load for AV amplifiers across a wide range of output power from 15 to 250W.
At 200 × 625 × 339 mm and 17.8 kg, the R6 Meta is a substantial component — wider and heavier than the R2 Meta, and commensurately more demanding in terms of placement. Those placing it horizontally beneath a screen should ensure the supporting surface is both level and sufficiently rigid to carry its weight without adding mechanical resonance to the cabinet. The microfibre grille attaches magnetically and leaves no visible fixings on the baffle when removed. Bi-wiring and bi-amping are supported via KEF's custom 5-way tool-less binding posts, available in Black Gloss, White Gloss, and Walnut to match the R11 Meta and R5 Meta across a complete R Series front stage.

Who Is It For?
The R6 Meta is the correct centre channel choice for a home cinema system built around the KEF R11 Meta floorstander — sharing the same 165 mm bass driver and the same 12th generation Uni-Q® with MAT™, and delivering the tonal consistency and imaging precision that a matched front stage demands. Those whose room or placement constraints favour a more compact centre channel should consider the KEF R2 Meta, which shares the same Uni-Q® technology in a narrower, lighter cabinet. Supplementing either centre channel with the KEF KC62 Subwoofer completes a home cinema front stage of exceptional low-frequency capability and dynamic range.
Buying from Martins Hi-Fi
Martins Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968. Elizabeth Gould runs the business today, and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind.
The R6 Meta is available to discuss at our Norwich showroom — we can advise on placement, system matching with the R11 Meta or R5 Meta floorstanders, and the AV amplification best suited to getting the most from the complete R Series front stage. When you get in touch, you'll be speaking with Dave, Chris and Tim — experienced specialists who can advise on this product and your whole system.
