12th Generation Uni-Q with Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT™)

The LS50 Wireless II uses KEF's 12th Generation Uni-Q driver array, which places the tweeter at the acoustic centre of the midrange cone. This Single Apparent Source design means that treble and midrange appear to emanate from the same point, producing a wide, consistent sweet spot and stable stereo imaging across a broader listening area than a conventional two-driver arrangement.

Metamaterial Absorption Technology — MAT™ — sits behind the tweeter and works as an acoustic absorber for the rearward energy the tweeter produces. KEF describe it as a precisely engineered labyrinthine structure that absorbs 99% of the unwanted sound radiating from the rear of the tweeter, preventing it from reflecting back through the driver and introducing colouration into the treble. The practical result is a measurable reduction in distortion and a cleaner, more resolved high-frequency presentation.

Music Integrity Engine

The Music Integrity Engine is the DSP and amplification architecture that sits at the heart of the LS50 Wireless II. It coordinates the two dedicated amplifier channels — 280W Class D for the bass/midrange driver and 100W Class A/B for the tweeter — with KEF's signal processing algorithms to ensure that the amplification is optimised specifically for this driver and cabinet, rather than being a general-purpose design. The crossover and time-alignment are handled entirely in the digital domain before amplification, which allows a level of precision that passive crossover designs cannot match.

W2 Wireless Platform and Connectivity

The W2 wireless platform gives the LS50 Wireless II access to every major streaming service and protocol. Wi-Fi, Apple AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast and Bluetooth are all built in. The KEF Connect app provides access to Amazon Music, Qobuz and Deezer directly, while Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect are available through their respective applications. The LS50 Wireless II is also Roon Ready and supports Internet Radio.

For high-resolution audio, the system handles PCM files up to 24-bit/384kHz, MQA decoding and DSD256. Wired connectivity covers HDMI ARC for television use, optical, coaxial and RCA analogue inputs, making it straightforward to connect a turntable, CD player or games console alongside streaming sources.

The connection between the two speakers is wireless, removing the need for an interconnect cable across the room. The LS50 Wireless II is available in Carbon Black, Mineral White, Titanium Grey and Royal Blue.
