KEF Ci200RR-THX

The KEF Ci200RR-THX is a THX Ultra2 certified in-ceiling loudspeaker from KEF's Ci-R Series — a range conceived to bring the acoustic engineering principles of KEF's Reference floorstanding loudspeakers to the demands of custom installation. The Ci200RR-THX is designed for LCR and surround roles in Extreme Home Theatre installations where ceiling mounting is required — delivering the output capability, tonal accuracy, and imaging precision of a traditional box loudspeaker from a fully flush-ceiling format. It is a loudspeaker that refuses the compromises ordinarily associated with architectural audio — combining THX Ultra2 certified performance with a form factor that integrates completely and discreetly into any room.

Uni-Q Driver Array with Tangerine Waveguide

At the heart of the Ci200RR-THX sits KEF's Uni-Q driver array — a 38 mm vented aluminium dome tweeter mounted at the acoustic centre of a 200 mm woofer, forming a concentric point-source arrangement that ensures high and mid-range frequencies radiate from precisely the same point in space. This coincident geometry is of particular importance in a ceiling-mounted application, where the speaker's position is fixed by the architecture of the room and cannot be adjusted for optimal toe-in or listening axis. The Uni-Q array's 120° nominal coverage angle ensures that the Ci200RR-THX distributes sound evenly across the full width of the listening area below — maintaining consistent tonal balance and imaging quality for every seat in the room.

KEF's patented tangerine waveguide manages high-frequency airflow across the dome, ensuring even and natural dispersion throughout the listening space. The tweeter voice coil is coupled to a vented aluminium dome — a construction that combines the resolution and extension of a metal dome with the thermal management benefits of venting, delivering the high-frequency capability that THX Ultra2 certification demands. The 200 mm woofer features a massive magnet assembly and Z-flex surround — a surround geometry engineered to maximise linear excursion whilst minimising distortion — providing the low-frequency authority to reach 33 Hz in open-backed installation conditions.

THX Ultra2 Certification

The Ci200RR-THX carries THX Ultra2 certification — the highest standard of THX certification available for home cinema loudspeakers, demanding that a loudspeaker meet stringent performance criteria across frequency response, output capability, imaging quality, and distortion. These criteria are derived from a deep understanding of the professional studio monitoring environment in which film soundtracks are created and mixed — and a THX Ultra2 certified system recreates the tonal balance of the filmmaker's final mix in the listening room with complete fidelity. The Ci200RR-THX achieves this standard in a fully flush-ceiling installation, delivering up to 106 dB peak SPL at one metre from an enclosure that is invisible from the listening position.

IP64 Rating and Installation

The Ci200RR-THX carries an IP64 rating — certified dust-tight and resistant to water splashing from any direction — extending its application beyond the dedicated cinema room into covered outdoor installations, bathroom environments, and any location where moisture resistance is required without concession to acoustic performance. The ultra-thin ABS bezel and magnetic paintable grille ensure a completely discreet finish, and the universal 200 mm cutout is compatible with all KEF 200 mm in-ceiling round speakers — providing maximum flexibility for system design and future component upgrades. Gold-plated spring-loaded binding posts simplify installation and ensure a reliable, corrosion-resistant connection. A safety loop is included as standard.

The optional RIF200R rough-in frame is available separately for new-build or renovation installations where the cutout position must be fixed before ceiling finishing work is complete.

Who Is It For?

The Ci200RR-THX is the correct choice for an Extreme Home Theatre installation where THX Ultra2 certified in-ceiling LCR or surround channels are required — whether as overhead Atmos channels in a Dolby Atmos or DTS:X configuration, or as primary ceiling-mounted speakers in an installation where in-wall mounting is not possible. It pairs naturally with the in-wall designs from the same Ci-R Series, including the KEF Ci200RS-THX and the KEF Ci3160RL-THX. For in-wall subwoofer performance, the KEF Ci3160RLb-THX completes the Ci-R Series bass solution. For the ultimate front-stage performance, the KEF Ci5160REF-THX represents the pinnacle of KEF's custom installation engineering.
