Gold Note PH-5.2 Phono Stage
The Gold Note PH-5.2 stands among the most comprehensively engineered phono stages available at its price point — a Class A analogue design from Florence that offers a level of cartridge matching flexibility and EQ sophistication previously found only in far more expensive units. Built around a true 100% Class A analogue signal path and housed in a newly redesigned black sandblasted anodised aluminium chassis, the PH-5.2 delivers a noise floor low enough to let the finest details in a record groove emerge with the precision and naturalness that serious vinyl replay demands.
Class A Analogue Signal Path
The PH-5.2 runs its entire signal path in Class A — no switching, no compromise. Class A operation keeps the output stage conducting continuously, eliminating the crossover distortion that haunts less committed designs and producing a tonal character of exceptional density and naturalness. The anodised aluminium chassis is not merely an aesthetic choice: sandblasted aluminium interacts far less with magnetic fields than conventional materials, reducing the interference that raises the noise floor and obscures low-level detail. The result is a mechanical and electrical environment in which the circuitry can perform at its full potential.
Six EQ Curves
Where most phono stages offer RIAA and nothing more, the PH-5.2 provides six selectable equalisation curves — RIAA, Decca London, and American Columbia, each available in a standard and Enhanced variant. This is a genuine musical capability, not a specification exercise. Older pressings and pre-RIAA recordings cut to Decca London or Columbia standards have always sounded subtly wrong through a standard phono stage — the PH-5.2 corrects this, restoring the tonal balance and dynamic coherence the original engineers intended. For collectors of vintage vinyl, this alone justifies the investment.
Cartridge Matching
Eight gain levels spanning 34dB to 66dB, combined with nine selectable input impedance settings, give the PH-5.2 the range to work with virtually any MM or MC cartridge in production. Whether the cartridge is a high-output moving magnet or a low-output MC demanding careful impedance matching, the PH-5.2 can be configured precisely — using the front-panel TFT colour touchscreen — without interrupting the signal path or requiring internal adjustment.
Balanced and Unbalanced Outputs
Both stereo unbalanced RCA and balanced XLR outputs are provided, ensuring the PH-5.2 integrates cleanly with any amplifier or preamplifier configuration. Balanced operation over XLR delivers common-mode noise rejection across longer cable runs — a meaningful advantage in real-world listening rooms.
The PSX-5.2 External Power Supply
The optional PSX-5.2 inductive external power supply takes the PH-5.2's performance to a higher level still — removing the internal power supply's residual influence from the signal path entirely. The practical benefit is tighter, more controlled dynamics, cleaner high frequencies under complex musical conditions, and a presentation that is more authoritative and composed. For those building a serious vinyl front end, the PSX-5.2 deserves serious consideration.

Who Is It For?
The Gold Note PH-5.2 is built for the vinyl enthusiast who takes cartridge matching seriously and wants the flexibility to replay a wide range of pressings faithfully — including older recordings that demand non-RIAA equalisation. It suits any system where a turntable such as the Gold Note Mediterraneo or the Gold Note Pianosa is at the heart of the front end, and pairs naturally with cartridges from the Gold Note range such as the Gold Note Vasari, Gold Note Donatello, and Gold Note Tuscany.
