Cyrus TTP Turntable Ex-Demo

This is an ex-demonstration example of the Cyrus TTP — Cyrus's first turntable, and one that arrived with none of the compromises you might expect from a company making its debut in the category. The engineering behind it is the same as the new product: a plinth machined from a single aluminium billet, a DC synchronous motor with digital speed control, and a tonearm designed from first principles to minimise resonance and bearing friction. The only difference is the price.

Precision Machining

The plinth is machined from a single aluminium billet — not cast, not pressed. The platter is also aluminium, suspended on a hardened steel axle rotating in an ultra-precise bearing with integrated lubrication, mounted directly into the solid aluminium plinth. The mechanical path from stylus to chassis is as short and rigid as the material allows.

Vibration that would colour the signal in a less rigidly constructed deck has nowhere to accumulate in the TTP. The machined aluminium absorbs and damps it before it reaches the stylus — a consequence of the construction method rather than an add-on treatment.

DC Synchronous Motor and Digital Speed Control

The TTP uses a DC synchronous motor with a custom-designed digital control circuit. Electronic speed control operates at both 33⅓ and 45 RPM. A synchronous motor locks to a reference frequency rather than running open-loop; combined with active digital control, the result is wow and flutter figures that are extremely low. Speed stability is not something you notice when it is correct — you notice its absence when it is not.

The supplied PSU accepts 90–264V AC at 50/60Hz, covering all international mains standards without user adjustment.

Tonearm

The tonearm has been designed with intelligent redistribution of mass to minimise points of resonance. Fewer resonances in the arm mean fewer opportunities for the arm to add its own character to what the cartridge is reading from the groove. The horizontal and vertical bearing assemblies provide almost friction-free movement — a critical requirement, since any bearing friction prevents the cartridge from tracking accurately at low stylus forces.

The combination of low friction and well-distributed mass means the TTP's arm will track a wide range of cartridges effectively and retrieve more low-level detail from the groove than an arm that has been less carefully engineered.

Cartridge Choice

The TTP is supplied without a cartridge — this is deliberate. Cyrus and their dealers take the view that cartridge choice is personal and system-dependent, and that fitting a cartridge at the factory forecloses a conversation worth having. The TTP accepts moving magnet cartridges directly into compatible Cyrus preamplifiers and integrated amplifiers. For a dedicated phono preamplifier, the Cyrus Classic Phono is the natural partner — and for those wanting MC capability, it handles that too.

PSX-R2 Upgrade Port

The TTP includes a dedicated port for the Cyrus PSX-R2 external power supply. When connected, the PSX-R2 routes power internally to the motor drive stage, providing a more stable and lower-noise supply for the motor control circuit. For a turntable, where the motor supply directly affects speed stability, this is a meaningful upgrade path — and it is built into the TTP from the outset, requiring no modification.

Who Is It For?

This ex-demonstration TTP is for the serious vinyl listener who wants a turntable engineered to a high standard and is prepared to make the cartridge choice themselves. It pairs naturally with the Cyrus Classic AMP or Cyrus Classic Phono, and it benefits from the same PSX-R2 upgrade path that runs through the Classic and 40 Series ranges.

At 24kg, the TTP demands a solid, well-isolated support. That conversation — support, cartridge, phono stage — is one worth having with us before you commit, and it is exactly the kind of system discussion we are set up for.
