Cyrus Classic Power
The Cyrus Classic Power is a stereo power amplifier from the Classic Series, designed to partner the Classic PRE preamplifier or to work as a second amplifier in a bi-amplification setup. Its circuit has been completely redesigned using topology and component upgrades developed for the XR Series — bringing a level of engineering refinement to the Classic range that the price alone does not convey.
Redesigned Circuit Topology
This is not a revision of the previous model. The Classic Power has been built from the ground up, informed directly by Cyrus's work on the XR Series. The majority of internal components have been upgraded, and the result is a power amplifier that is quieter, more composed at high output levels, and more revealing of low-level musical detail than anything that preceded it in the Classic range. For existing Classic Series owners, this represents a genuinely worthwhile step forward.
Wideband Power Amplifier
The power amplifier stage responds from DC to beyond 50kHz, ensuring ruler-flat frequency response across the full audio band with phase shifts kept well outside the range of human hearing. This wideband design means the amplifier is not working against itself at the frequency extremes — transient response is fast and accurate, and the audio band is handled with complete composure.
High Capacity Power Supply
A 408VA toroidal power transformer feeds a high-capacity power supply designed to handle the demands of dynamic music without strain. Large orchestral crescendos, fast bass lines, and percussive transients all place sudden high-current demands on a power amplifier — the Classic Power's power supply is sized to meet those demands without compression or hardening of the sound.
PSX-R2 Upgrade Path
The Classic Power includes a dedicated port for the Cyrus PSX-R2 external power supply. When connected, the PSX-R2 routes power directly to the voltage amplifier stage — a particularly sensitive part of the circuit — providing a cleaner, more stable supply precisely where it matters most. The improvement in noise floor and low-level resolution is well documented, and it is worth serious consideration for anyone investing in the Classic Power for the long term.
Connectivity
The Classic Power accepts both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs, with a daisy-chain RCA output for flexible system configuration. A 12V trigger input allows the amplifier to be switched on and off automatically by a compatible preamplifier or control system, and MC-BUS integration allows seamless control within a full Cyrus system. A firmware upgrade port ensures the Classic Power can be kept current as Cyrus release updates.

Who Is It For?
The Classic Power is for the listener who wants to separate preamplification from power amplification in a Classic Series system, or who is looking to bi-amplify a pair of loudspeakers with a matching unit. It also suits anyone upgrading from a previous Cyrus power amplifier who wants the benefit of XR-derived circuit design without moving to the full XR or 40 Series. For those considering a higher-output option, the Cyrus X Power is the natural comparison, and the Cyrus Stereo 200 is worth considering if a class-D topology is of interest.
Buying from Martins Hi-Fi
Martin's Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968. Elizabeth Gould runs the business today, and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind. Dave and Chris know the Cyrus range thoroughly and can demonstrate the Classic Power in our Norwich showroom, paired with the Classic PRE or as part of a complete Classic Series system. If you are considering adding the PSX-R2, we can let you hear the difference before you commit.
